My wife and I had a serious conversation about me being a stay at home dad last night.

Sounds cheesy but it may happen. She does have a better job than me and an opportunity to take a huge careee leap in the next year or two. My job is rather good too, but we agreed that we a. Don’t want to send our children to any daycare and b. Don’t want to be the parents that are surrounded by work and our careers.

We’ll have to see how it works out I guess.

Eh. I understand and feel the same for the most part. Daycare was pretty awful overall unless you get really lucky and find a nice place for your kid. My situation is a little different at the moment. Gf made more than me for a while until I began my current job back in September. We're pretty much identical now in salary but I'm closer to a large bump than she is; her career path will have a more gradual increase over many years (hospitality sales/management) whereas mine will peak at about 75-80k and I won't have much room to grow after that. Having a DIH (dual income household) is fucking amazing though and I can't imagine going down to only one income. I would do my best to have a relative help raise the child for a few years until one of us could transition to a job that's mostly based on working from home. Are you guys trying now or is this just a preliminary conversation?

Living off one salary anywhere isn't very fun, so I can't even imagine how NY/NJ cost of living is. Marry rich or for season tickets. Words of the wise (ty Eniac)

my wife is back in school full time getting her MBA right now so we're technically on a single income

luckily it's mine, so we're set, but you know, the kids might have to ride in the lambo this week rather than waste fuel on the jet

It's really not that bad as long as you're not in the NW corner of the state. Everything over here is outrageous because of the proximity to NYC but 30 mins West is much more doable.

They’re talking about if you have a significant other and children, not for a single male
