Texans' Jadeveon Clowney may get more snaps at defensive endPer John McClain of the Houston ChronincleQuote
Don't be surprised if Jadeveon Clowney continues to play right defensive end rather than outside linebacker. The coaches are being coy about how Clowney will be used against Kansas City, but he played well enough in the 23-14 victory over Chicago that the defense is better with him at end.
It was the first time Clowney has played exclusively at defensive end in coordinator Romeo Crennel's 3-4 defense. "It's all new to me playing end in a 3-4 base," Clowney said after practice Thursday. "I'm just trying to learn and do what they ask me. I'm getting better and I know I can become an impact player in this league."
Playing right end most of the time and going against the left tackle or left guard, Clowney recorded one sack, three hits on Jay Cutler and four tackles. The idea is to get Clowney, Watt and outside linebackers Whitney Mercilus and John Simon on the field at the same time in the base defense. In obvious passing situations, Clowney lined up wide like he did in college, when he played defensive end in a 4-3.
I feel bad that it took two years to finally put Jadeveon Clowney in a position to succeed and dominate.
Although to be fair, he was mostly injured his first two seasons and this is his first time being healthy in the NFL.
I can't wait for kickoff on Sunday. The winner of the Texans versus Chiefs game will be 2-0 and in good shape.
Two more days of feeling anxious and having that anticipation build up. I'm fired up just thinking about it!
As I had mentioned earlier in the week, this is why Brock Osweiler was paid the big money. To help us win big games like this.
