The veterans for the Houston Texans report to camp on July 30.
Exactly two weeks from today. The rookies report a few days earlier.
I've been out to NRG Stadium a couple of times during this past week and I watched the field crew working on the practice field outside. It looks really nice out there: They renovated a lot of the facilities inside and out NRG Park. Just a beautiful place all around that area for anybody who has a chance to see it in person.
With Super Bowl 51 coming to NRG Stadium on February 5 everything looks incredible. The Texans installed a new field surface for this upcoming season, but I know the NFL will have a special grass installed a few weeks before the Super Bowl is played, that they have been growing for the past few years.
I'm beyond ready for Week 1 on September 11 when the Houston Texans host the Chicago Bears.
This 2016 season has a chance to become something really special if everything falls perfectly into place.
All of the practice time and preseason will be valuable for the new look offense.
An entirely new starting backfield with Brock Osweiler and Lamar Miller.
Rookie wideouts Will Fuller and Braxton Miller, and rookie center Nick Martin.
It's going to be important to have all five of those guys up to speed as quick as possible.
If all else fails offensively just threw the damn ball to DeAndre Hopkins. Easy enough, LOL.
Our strong defense will have to shoulder the load until the offense is clicking on all cylinders.
Also, I know some of you are worried about the tight ends and our lack of production at that position.
Good article on Ryan Griffin right here: It's a contract year for him. He has a lot to prove coming off his injuries.
http://www.unionleader.com/NFL/Texans-Griffin-has-something-to-prove-following-injury-07142016Between Ryan Griffin and C.J. Fiedorowicz we will need one or both of those guys to step up and produce.
I would imagine we will still see J.J. Watt playing tight end in certain goal line packages. His hands are huge!
Braxton Miller will mostly play WR but he could see some time at QB and RB, in certain wildcat formations, as well.
What the Houston Texans have in 2016 that they haven't had before; A lot of speed to burn on offense.
This is the fastest and quickest, potentially most explosive group of players, that I've ever seen this team have.
So even though the offense may be a work in progress with a lot of new young players it should still be fun to watch.
