Giants still in play for free agent FB Vonta Leach

Quote
We last heard about Vonta Leach on Monday when the Miami Herald reported that the Dolphins remain the favored landing destination for the three-time Pro Bowl fullback and that he's simply waiting out the next few weeks to see if another team ups the ante.

Although that may be true, the Giants are still in the running, according to a person familiar with the situation who requested anonymity to speak freely on the situation.

Leach has not dropped New Jersey from his list of potential destinations, the person said, which is good news for the Giants, who watched Henry Hynoski go down this offseason.

Leach is a bruising fullback who has only played on a handful of teams that did not end up with a 1,000-yard rusher -- the Ron Dayne years in Houston were rough, apparently -- and most recently helped pave the way for Ray Rice in Baltimore.

For a young Giants backfield with budding talent, it could be a nice addition of the price is right heading into camp.

Oh yea... I want him bad... we need him with Hynoski recovering from surgery and the uncertainty of his starting the season on PUP

Rolle on Nicks: "The Silent Killer."

Quote
"Rolle said on NFL Total Access that facing Cruz is much different than going against Hakeem Nicks. “Totally different to defend,'' Rolle said. "Hakeem Nicks, I think he is a little more deceptive than Victor Cruz. When you look at Nicks you might not think he is moving as fast but when you are up against him, running with him, you understand this guy is moving. His hands are probably the biggest I’ve ever seen on a receiver. I call him ‘The Silent killer.’ His routes are so smooth; everything he does is so smooth. While Victor Cruz is going to always put a little bit of salsa on it. I think he goes out there and gives you the wiggles, gives you the shake and he is exceptionally quick. If he takes a step on you, you can pretty much cancel Christmas.”

Nicks and Cruz and gona go ape shit this season....... Randle is going to break out and go nuts..... watch

Nicks........Cruz..........Randle.........Murphy

Giants Roster Breakdown #58: Ryan Nassib

Quote
The New York Giants drafted quarterback Ryan Nassib in the fourth round. Today we look at Nassib's potential impact on the 2013 roster.

When Ryan Nassib was still on the board at the beginning of Day 3 of the 2013 NFL Draft the New York Giants decided that even though they didn't need a quarterback that Nassib was too high on their draft board to pass up. So they traded up in the fourth round, surrendering their sixth-round pick in the process, to get him. Director of College Scouting Marc Ross said Nassib "was just too good of a value" to pass up.

Let's focus on the rookie quarterback from Syracuse University as we continue our player-by-player breakdown of the 90-man roster the Giants will bring to training camp.

2012 Season In Review

Nassib finished a stellar career at Syracuse by completing 62.4 percent of his passes (294-of-471) for 3,794 yards, with 26 touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He had a passer rating of 143.3.

"When I look at quarterbacks, I don’t look at arm strength and all that. That stuff is secondary to me," Ross said. "I look at guys who are leaders and winners and raise the level of their team and when they’re on the field they have a presence about them and some moxie to them.

"This guy just has a presence about him around his team, and then at the Senior Bowl around guys he didn’t know. Those are the winning attributes for me that I look for in quarterbacks"
'This guy just has a presence about him.' - Marc Ross on Ryan Nassib

2013 Outlook

Nassib will be on the 53-man roster as a backup to Eli Manning. The question is will Nassib be the only backup, or will he be joined by veteran David Carr, the incumbent No. 2 quarterback? The Giants have been loathe in recent years to carry three quarterbacks on the active roster. In fact, they haven't done it since carrying Manning, Jared Lorenzen and Anthony Wright in 2007. In the event of an injury to Manning, however, you have to believe head coach Tom Coughlin would find it difficult to put his season in the hands of a rookie -- even one the Giants traded up to get.

The guess here is that the Giants sacrifice somewhere else on the roster to keep three quarterbacks, likely giving Nassib a season to learn before they move on from Carr and give him the No. 2 job.

Giants Roster Breakdown #59: Hakeem Nicks

Quote
Wide receiver Hakeem Nicks is next as we continue our player-by-player breakdowns of the Giants' 90-man roster.

It seems appropriate that we come to wide receiver Hakeem Nicks at this point in our player-by-player breakdown of the 90-man roster the New York Giants will bring to training camp. With the signing of Victor Cruz to a long-term contract, Nicks' future has been a source of debate. He can be a free agent after the 2013 season, and is likely to seek a rich long-term deal of his own.

Let's put Nicks under the microscope.

2012 Season In Review

A down year for the 2009 first-round pick. First, a broken foot suffered during OTAs impacted his preparation and slowed him early in the season. Then, a knee injury that required offseason surgery cost him games and affected him when he was playing. The result was a sub-par 53-catch, 692-yard season. He also averaged a career-worst 13.1 yards per catch, and scored only three touchdowns. That's a far cry from the 76 and 79-catch seasons he had the two previous years, when he went over 1,000 yards receiving both times and totaled 18 touchdowns. It's also not what the Giants needed from the guy they consider their No. 1 receiver.

2013 Outlook

If Nicks is healthy his production should equal or surpass 2010 and 2011 levels. The question, as it seemingly always is with the 25-year-old who is entering his fifth season, is whether or not he can stay healthy. Nicks has never played all 16 games and forever seems to be fighting through some type of injury.

There is no doubt about his impact on the Giants' offense when he is healthy -- we saw last season the problems Nicks' physical limitations caused for Eli Manning and the Giants. Nicks is one of those receivers who is open even when he isn't open because he can use his size, huge hands and physicality to catch balls in heavy traffic.

Nicks, of course, will play 2013 with his eye not only on helping the Giants but on the rich payday that awaits the free-agent-to-be after the season should he have a huge year.

Giants Roster Breakdown #60: Adewale Ojomo

Quote
Adewale Ojomo is next up as we continue our breakdown of the Giants' 90-man roster.

Every year it seems the New York Giants uncover a couple of undrafted players who surprise and make the 53-man roster. In 2012 Adewale Ojomo, a defensive end from Miami, was one of those players. He turned a dominant preseason into a spot on the roster.

Can Ojomo build on that and become a contributor on the defensive line in 2013? We look at the second-year player as we continue our player-by-player breakdown of the 90-man roster the Giants will bring to training camp in a couple of weeks.

2012 Season In Review

Ojomo became a darling of the fan base with a dominant preseason, registering four sacks, 10 tackles and a forced fumble. He also surprisingly made the 53-man roster. Playing behind Jason Pierre-Paul, Justin Tuck, Osi Umenyiora, Mathias Kiwanuka and Adrian Tracy, however, Ojomo did not carry his success into the regular season. He was inactive most game days and appeared in just one game, with no tackles or sacks.

2013 Outlook

The 6-foot-4, 270-pound Ojomo is once again in the mix for a roster spot as a reserve defensive end. With Pierre-Paul, Tuck, Kiwanuka and third-round pick Damontre Moore locks to make the roster if heatlhy, Ojomo is again competing with Matt Broha (practice squad in 2012) and Justin Trattou (IR in 2012, six games on the active roster in 2011) for a roster spot. If he can repeat his preseason performance from a season ago Ojomo could make the roster. We will just have to wait and see if he can force his way into the regular season defensive end rotation.

damn! lots of good toilet read this page.

nicks.. he's beast but need to be consistent healthy.

Cruz contract look good, save us money and he make money.

our offense weapon look beast

nassib will be interesting, Eli can have QB committee, work on offense game plan with both QB.

Carr know him forever, can be 2nd opinion and stuff. nassib can bring new concept to table, add some sort of new game plan.

ojomo sound interesting. I really think we will have explosive year on both side of the ball.

I normally read and sometimes post a bunch of stuff when I take a lunch break

I hope Carr gets cut, we don't need him taking up a roster spot... Nassib can ride the bench by himself... let's be serious Eli is an ironman
