JJ Watt catches Ryan Fitzpatrick's 6 TD pass of the day
That is J.J. Watt's fifth touchdown this season, the same as Calvin Johnson, A.J. Green and Le'Veon Bell..
6-6 record. Four games left to play: At Jaguars, at Colts, Ravens and Jaguars.
Only thing that matters for now is beating the Jaguars at Jacksonville on Sunday.
Fighting their way back to a winning record at 7-6 would be something to watch.
Even if the Texans come up short of making the playoffs they played hard this season. Some unfortunate injuries to key players such as Jadeveon Clowney, Arian Foster, Brian Cushing and Kareem Jackson. They lost to a lot of playoff contenders this season: Cowboys (overtime), Colts, Steelers, Bengals and Eagles.
The only game they lost to a bad team this season, record wise, was against the Giants on the road. But the Giants are a deceivingly bad team that has a two-time Super Bowl champion head coach and quarterback with an embarrassment of riches at the wide receiver position. And they're actually not that bad at home. They nearly beat the Cowboys at home a few games back.
I'd love to see the Texans finish 10-6 and sneak into that final wild-card spot in the AFC. 9-7 or 8-8 is more likely. But regardless I think they have a great chance to become a good football team in 2015. They have shown this 2014 season that they aren't far away from being able to compete with the best teams and that says a lot coming off a 2-14 season in 2013. It was asking for a lot to think we could beat the big boys this season. We were the worst team in the NFL last season for a reason.
I want to discuss the Texans 2015 NFL mock draft but we're not out of the playoff race just yet. And likely won't be after beating the Jaguars on Sunday. Maybe in two or three weeks. I'm ready to receive my free slushie drink from Sonic on Tuesday. Looking forward to another one the following Tuesday.
It's hard to do what the Texans have done this season without a reliable quarterback and without a healthy team. Bill O'Brien has done a fine job as a rookie head coach under the circumstances. He's looking like the right type of head coach you can build a team around. All we need is a good quarterback. Ryan Fitzpatrick was awesome today: 24-for-33, 358 passing yards with 6 TDs and 0 INTs but it was against the lowly Tennessee Titans. He was taken out of the game due to a blowout with 8:16 left in the fourth quarter or else he might have thrown for a seventh touchdown.
