I believe it man, fans who become so invested feel part of the team. But I seriously wonder why we continue to be lions fans and the only answer is "because when they do win a SB it will be so much sweeter" then you look back and realize how many lions fans have died waiting for a playoff win or two, what makes us think we won't spend our whole life waiting like them only to be buried disappointed.
Theres an older dude I always see tailgating and he has a sign on his truck that says since "since 57". Poor bastard.
there is more to it than that, but i get what you're saying. i felt that way about the brewers for so many years that i actually lost quite a bit of interest in the sport as i got older because the team would literally trade away the talent that it cultivated every few years. so goddamn depressing. entire city of milwaukee had such low expectations that when they actually made the playoffs a few years back, the entire state when into a frenzy and the World Series talk began.
the key is to have low expectations and as long as your team does the best it can, you can rest easy. like i said at the bar the other night to my buddy, if the packers can actually remain healthy and we still can't make it out of the first round of the playoffs, then i will know for a fact that we aren't worthy. this 15+ on IR every season shit is beyond pissing me off. hard to tell what the team is actually capable of

the perennial optimism of the lions fanbase is most likely the best i've seen amongst any group of fans tbh. cheers to a good season ahead
