Giants Roster Breakdown #12: Stevie Brown

Quote
Stevie Brown was a revelation for the Giants in 2012? Can he do it again in 2013?

Safety Stevie Brown is next on our list as we continue our look at the 90-man roster the New York Giants will bring to training camp in late July.

2012 Season In Review

Brown came to the Giants after failing to make an impact with the Oakland Raiders or Indianapolis Colts in his first two seasons. He definitely made an impact with the Giants. He had a team-high eight interceptions -- second in the NFL -- and forced two fumbles while starting 11 games, helping the Giants defense finish fourth in the league in takeaways with 35.

2013 Outlook

With Kenny Phillips in Philadelphia, Brown, who will be 26 next season, enters 2013 as a full-fledged starter for the first time in his four-year career. Asking Brown to reprise what he did in 2012 in terms of turnovers might be unrealistic. The Giants would settle for solid safety play from Brown that helps the Giants do a better job eliminating big plays from the opposition's passing game, an area of weakness the past couple of seasons. There is no reason to expect that Brown won't have a solid season for the Giants in 2013.

Giants Roster Breakdown #13: Bryant Browning

Quote
Offensive lineman Bryant Browning would not seem to have much fo a chance to make the Giants' 53-man roster.

Let's continue our look at the 90-man roster the New York Giants will bring to training camp next month. Here, we look at Bryant Browning, an offensive lineman who -- right now -- seems like little more than a camp body

2012 Season In Review

Browning was with the Cleveland Browns in 2012, spending the entire season on the team's practice squad. He was an undrafted free agent and played two games with the Carolina Panthers in 2011.

2013 Outlook

Browning, a 6-foot-4, 325-pound guard from Ohio State, signed a reserve/futures contract with the Giants in January. It seems unlikely that Browning could find his way onto the 53-man roster. There are several veterans and players rafted within the last two seasons who seem more logical candidates for the roster. More likely he is probably competing for a spot on the practice squad.

Giants Roster Breakdown #14: David Buehler

Quote
Does David Buehler have a real chance of taking the plackicking job away from Josh Brown?

We continue our look at the 90-man roster the New York Giants will bring to training camp by discussing placekicker David Buehler, formerly with the Dallas Cowboys.

2012 Season In Review

Buehler was out of football in 2012. He was released after the 2011 season by the Dallas Cowboys after spending three seasons there. He kicked field goals only during the 2010 season, going 24-of-32 (75 percent) and making 4-of-6 from beyond 50 yards. He was only 4-of-7 from 30-39 yards and 8-of-11 from 40-49 yards. Buehler was primarily a kickoff specialist during his time with the Cowboys.

2013 Outlook

Buehler will, theoretically, provide competition for Josh Brown as the Giants' placekicker. The 10-year veteran Brown would appear to be the clear front-runner, however. The Giants have not brought multiple kickers to training camp in recent years, so it's fair to wonder if Buehler will still be on the roster when that begins.

Giants Interested in Desmond Bishop!!!

... sounds like he's interested in us too.

Quote
“The Giants and Jacksonville are the next two that are interested,’’ Bishop said on SiriusXM NFL Radio. “Actually, the Niners called but of course, you know, they’re kind of set over there. I appreciate their interest in me regardless. But the Giants, which is a real good situation, and Jacksonville as well.”

Quote
From listening to his comments he's not JUST looking for money. He wants to start and play for a winner which is why there may be a chance the Giants could draw his interest (albeit small). Also I'm pretty sure he knows he's gonna only sign a 1 year "prove it" type contract due to the injury concern. If he's as confident in his health as he says he may take less to be in a situation to excel and have a solid season.
