Good post. What do you think of Schiano thus far? I think this season it was expected to do poorly and I think they've overachieved so far. The offensive coordinator seems to be getting his shit together (maybe it was just the Saints defense making him look good or maybe he just executed very well) and I think they've earned the opportunity to build the team they want through the draft and hopefully they'll be competitive soon. I really want to see them make the postseason with Freeman because I am curious just how he'd do in a really high pressure game like that.
I am very happy with Schiano tbh, he has bought faith back into Tampa Bay - he's bought his no-nonsense swarming attack the ball defense, which i fucking LURVE - and I think he has a great understanding of the game. I am pretty annoyed with the amount of commentators and analysts saying crap like "this is not rutgers - this isn't college - this isn't done in the NFL" - bullcrap. If it's a legal play, it's a legal play and if your team were too ignorant to notice the goal line stance in the middle of the field, or the Dline shifting to bring the Oline offside, then thats your problem. From my understanding, the only reason it was an illegal shift (on that 4th n 1 play) was because the linebacker made the call - if the team had said nothing and shifted anyway, we wouldn't have been penalized. Very annoyed by that play.
I think Schiano has done a great job with the Coaching Staff aswell - I think they are all learning from mistakes that have been made, and certainly from an offensive P.O.V. we are on the up now we have started maximising Vjax/Mike Williams.
We need to start using Nicks/Penn side to run - I really don't understand why we prefer using the right side to run when Nicks is flattening and throwing around Dlineman like a damn toy - saw a great block yesterday where he shoved the guy to the ground, and as Dlineman got up, Nicks was on his ass again and just squished him xDD
Brees was never gonna be shut down yesterday - Like Arog and Manning, he just hits the open guy and consistantly takes care of the ball. I wasn't expecting a blowout, and I wasn't expecting the game to be costed by 2 or 3 really bad calls - but I did expect a close game as usual (I maintain we are as good as the Saints given our current record against them with Freeman (Saints 7 - 6 Bucs ).
McCoy is a beast and makes our entire Defense better. I've been saying it since day 1, he is a stud, he is the re-incarnation of Sapp for us, and I think next year we are gonna be phreaking terrifying on D. McCoy, Bowers, Clayborne, Bennett, Miller, Barron, David, Foster - I drool at the potential of this line.
