How do you think Fitzpatrick will pan out in his Texans debut Ryan?

I think he'll be an upgrade over what Matt Schaub was last season (turnover machine) but if he struggles any then Ryan Mallett will likely become the starter a few weeks down the road. I think the Texans are good enough to win with a game manager at quarterback as long as they stay healthy. Hand the ball off 20-plus times to Arian Foster and see what he can do. He'll also become more of a factor in the short-yardage passing game.

Running the ball well and playing great defense: The Texans did both well two years ago and went 12-4. Last year they struggled in both due to costly injuries and naturally they went 2-14. It doesn't matter who the quarterback is, in my opinion. As long as the Texans run the ball well and play strong defense they're going to likely make the playoffs for the third time in four years. Maybe beat a team like the Bengals for a third time in a wild-card game. Now whether or not they can ever reach a Super Bowl, much less the AFC Championship game, without an elite quarterback is the question.

It's not often you are star struck with a 2-14 team but the Texans have a ton of talent on both sides of the ball.

10-6 will probably be good enough to clinch the last wild card spot in the AFC.

Texans win 17-6 and start the 2014 season with a 1-0 record.

Alfred Blue's blocked punt and return for the Touchdown changed the momentum of the game. J.J. Watt was fantastic all game long. Only one sack but five total QB hits on RGIII, two pass deflections and a blocked extra point. He also had a tackle for loss.

Brooks Reed was all over the place also. Jadeveon Clowney left the game with a knee injury late in the second quarter but hopefully it's nothing serious and he'll be ready to go next Sunday at Oakland.

It's always tough to win on the road but I think the Texans have what it takes to beat the Raiders so long as the offense plays better. Ryan Fitzpatrick was what we all thought he'd be. A game manager: 14-for-22 for 206 passing yards with 1 TD and 0 INTs. 109 QB rating. He had that one big 76-yard TD pass to DeAndre Hopkins.

Also kudos to Randy Bullock for making the 42-yard field goal which sealed the win. It was right down the middle with the distance from 50 yards. This guy missed every field goal over 40 yards last year and he's already a perfect 1-for-1 in 2014.

Jadeveon Clowney just had successful surgery on his torn meniscus. He's expected to be out 4 to 6 weeks. That means he should return sometime during the middle of the regular season. It could have been a lot worse. At least he's not going to miss his entire rookie season. If he can play eight more games plus hopefully some playoff games that is still good experience as a rookie.

The Texans are 1-0 and Whitney Mercilus has to step up now and start in his place. Hopefully the team continues to play hard. They did in the second half against the Redskins even without Jadeveon Clowney. I think the offense can play a lot better whether or not Ryan Mallett eventually starts over Ryan Fitzpatrick, but I don't see a quarterback change anytime soon.

If the Texans are somehow in the playoff race a month from now I'll start to feel excited about Clowney returning. If the Texans were to have a bad record then there is no reason to rush him back. For now all we need to worry about is the Texans playing at Oakland on Sunday. Let's reach 2-0 and go from there.

Every win the Texans can rack up just buys Jadeveon Clowney more time to become healthy again while still making a wild card run in the AFC.
