Brian Cushing said yesterday he's feeling about 85 % of where he wants to be after two straight years with season-ending injuries. He expects to be 100 % and ready to play by Week 1 in September against the Redskins. He is looking for a healthy and very productive season. Individually he wants to become an all pro again and win the comeback player of the year award. Team wise he expects the Texans to go from 2-14 to being back in the playoffs. He thinks the Texans defense has the potential to become a top three unit in the entire league.

Andre Johnson remains undecided about future with Texans
Posted on July 9, 2014 | By Brian T. Smith

Andre Johnson returned to the NFL news cycle Wednesday. But the veteran wide receiver didn’t provide any clarity about his future with the Texans, acknowledging he’s unsure whether he’ll be in uniform Sept. 7 for a Week 1 matchup against the Washington Redskins at NRG Stadium.

“I don’t know,” Johnson told NFL.com, while appearing at a Nike event in Oregon. “I can’t answer that question.”

Johnson was a little more positive about the potential he could end his stalemate with the Texans and appear in training camp, which begins in late July. But the franchise’s all-time leading receiver in receptions, yards and touchdowns remained vague about his overall plans, while speaking publicly for the first time since May, when he expressed frustration with the Texans’ rebuild.

“Hopefully. We’ll see what happens,” Johnson said. “Training camp’s three weeks away, so we’ll see what happens.”

The seven-time Pro Bowler missed all of the Texans’ recent offseason workouts, including a mandatory minicamp in mid-June.

Texans coach Bill O’Brien has taken the high road during the stalemate, regularly saying he greatly appreciates Johnson’s past contributions to the team. General manager Rick Smith and owner Bob McNair haven’t commented about Johnson’s holdout.

A lot of money is on the line for Andre Johnson because of his current contract. I doubt he'll just retire and the Texans aren't going to trade him. Hopefully he'll be ready to play in another month. I'm not sure that I feel good about all of this "we'll see what happens" talk out of him. He's never been the type of player to hold out like this. I understand he wants to win but so does every other player on the team. It's easy for people to say the Texans should just trade him to the New England Patriots but he's been the greatest player in franchise history.

#12 on the top 100 list this year. That's actually a fair assessment given it was a dismal 2-14 season for the team and his overall sack total dropped from 20.5 to 10.5. I thought he was going to fall somewhere in the #20's, but I think the players around the league still vote highly for him because they know how difficult he is to block off the edge even with two guys on him. 31 total sacks in two seasons from a defensive left end in a 3-4 defense is unheard of.

Stfu. That rating is a disgrace to Watt. He's easily a top 3-5 player in the league, and by far the best defensive player. 31 sacks in the last two years as a 34 DE. Are you kidding me? And let's not forget about his PDs.

draino, I actually voted for J.J. Watt #1 overall for 2014 on this thread... Refer to post #10.

I'm just trying not to be a homer for a change and figure out why he fell down to #12 and the only logical explanation I had was his drop in stats and our overall 2-14 season which featured 14 losses in a row. I know it's not his fault given the way he was beat up physically and frustrated all season long with two blockers constantly tying him up. He was a one man force out there despite the circumstances. The fact he produced double-digit sacks was very impressive.

That is exactly why I was in favor of drafting Jadeveon Clowney for the past seven months. Even though you were saying to draft a quarterback number one overall. We all know J.J. Watt is the best defensive player in the game but he needs help around him. We finally have that again so expect 2014 to be another monster year. Perhaps even another 20.5-sack season.

And hopefully from 2014 to 2022 we'll have one of the best defenses in the league. We have something special in place. A ton of young talent defensively with some great coaches on that side of the ball. We have arguably the best defensive player in the game (Watt), the best defensive coordinator in the game (Romeo Crennel), the best defensive lines coach in the game (Bill Kollar) and one hell of a new linebackers coach (Mike Vrabel).

Defensively. the Texans added a lot of young talent both in the draft and through some under-the-radar free agent signings. I'd probably call us a Super Bowl contender if we didn't have such a huge question mark offensively. Quarterback production, Andre Johnson's holdout and weather or not Arian Foster can stay healthy all loom large entering training camp.

My favorite Houston Texans play asked by ESPN? There are probably a handful of them in my mind.

But this one. Starting at 1:18 is the one that should probably top the list.

And man, T.J. Yates had some potential. What a shame he never developed. I wish him well with the Falcons if Matt Ryan gets hurt.

28 more days (exactly four weeks away) until the Houston Texans play at Arizona in their preseason opener on Saturday, August 9. But nobody but me cares about the preseason so we just have to wait for September 7 now. That Week 1 game against the Redskins is going to be an interesting matchup. Going into that game with an active 14-game losing streak. I hope the players come out hungry to win in front of the home crowd at the newly named NRG Stadium.

Looks like we have a pretty easy line up this season. No reason to not make the playoffs.

Those first four games look winnable for some strange reason but the first game will be a tough one. If they can start off 4-0 or 3-1 that would be a good start to the Bill O'Brien era. It will probably take a 10-6 record to clinch a wild card berth in the AFC. We'll see how good the Colts are. Everybody is picking them to win the AFC South but I'm excited to see our new look defense facing their elite offense.

With a new coach in Bill O'Brien, and a devastating pass rush with JJ Watt and first-round draft pick in Jadeveon Clowney, will the Texans pick things up after a terrible season? Jay Glazer, Donovan McNabb, Joel Klatt, Brian Urlacher and Randy Moss take a look at Houston.

Texans announce training camp dates

The Houston Texans have announced their training camp dates. Camp will start July 25, with practices beginning the next day.

Seven training camp sessions will be open to the public: the morning sessions on July 26, 27 and 30, and Aug. 1, 2, 13 and 14. All of those sessions will be from 8 to 10 a.m. CT except July 27's practice, which will be from 8:30 to 10:30 a.m.

Those Aug. 13 and 14 practices will be against the Atlanta Falcons.

Some other details for attending those practices: they'll adhere to the same clear bag policy as on game days, lines can begin forming at 7 a.m. on Murworth Ave., and tickets can be printed starting at 10 a.m. on July 16.

Parking is free in the Green lot south of the training facility. And the training facility is across Kirby Drive from the stadium.
