It was just a money move. Can't be paying 3 million to a player who is #4 on our depth chart.

Given how he played last season, I'm struggling to see how James Jones would be #4 on the depth chart.

in what sense?

I saw it being

1) Cooper
2) Crabtree
3) Streater
4) Jones
5) Holmes

I figured it would be Cooper and Jones as some combination of 1/2. Crabtree is over rated IMO, and as much as I love Streater, Jones is also a very good WR...I was afraid Streater would be the odd man out at #4.

He is 31, but he was productive last season and he's a big veteran presence. Was looking forward to him mentoring Cooper.

Wow in 2-3 years thats arguably the best receiving core in the league!! David Carr is the truth imo. 28+ tds this year.

I don't see many scenarios where Crab isn't our #2 receiver to start the year.

I'm not a big fan of cutting him, cause like you say he was productive and he could really help Amari. He was also by far the most reliable receiver on the team.
That said, he's on the wrong side of 30 and is past his prime. I see why they wouldn't feel great about paying him 6 million over the next 2 years when we have multiple receivers who are better
