Yeah O'Brien was definitely going after physical players. Probably why he didn't trade up for Bridgewater or Manziel.

It wouldn't surprise me if Tom Savage beats out Ryan Fitzpatrick and Case Keenum for the starting job in training camp this July and the preseason in August. Ideally it's usually best not to start a rookie quarterback from Week 1, but if he's better than the guys you already have on the roster it's tough to sell that idea to the fans.

The flaws he has can be coached up and improved. Bill O'Brien had him rated very highly. I guess that is why the Texans never panicked on day one or two when they didn't draft a quarterback. They waited until the end of the fourth round on day three of the draft.

Tom Savage is a good pocket passer, excellent in play action and he's a good enough scrambler and can throw on the run. Our red-zone offense has been horrendous for years and years. Matt Schaub is a horrible decision maker and we always settled for field goals, or made a costly turnover, and not enough Touchdowns every time we got inside the 20-yard line. Tom Savage looks like he can make the right reads inside the red zone.

I wouldn't expect Savage to start this year. He's very raw. Doesn't make the right reads and not the most accurate quarterback. When he's on he's on, but it can get bad too. Hell, he may not even take over until 2016.

That's where Bill O'Brien's coaching will come into play. You have to admit there is enough talent there to work with. We may only need to score 20 points to win some games if the defense can dominate like I expect. Our red-zone offense has to improve. Matt Schaub was not a good red-zone quarterback. We could often move the ball down the field with ease but as soon as we got inside the 20 yard line we were doomed.

I don't know how much I trust Ryan Fitzpatrick at his older age. I wasn't terribly disappointed with Case Keenum's play last year considering we had zero run game with Arian Foster not playing, and we didn't have nowhere near the defense or offensive line that we're going to have this year. Keenum played well enough to win at least five of those eight starts he made in 2013 but instead he went 0-8.

Let's say Tom Savage isn't ready to start then I would likely lean towards starting Case Keenum Week 1 of 2014.

It's going to take more than an offseason to get Savage playing like BOB wants him to. He is far from ready to start as a rookie.
Keenum couldn't move the ball at all. Occasionally he'd make a deep pass, but that was early when he made his first few starts, and teams started to figured out how to play him. Although he didn't have a good run game and Kubiak never played him to his strengths(no huddle offense), BOB could make him into a decent starter.

I'm fine with Fitzpatrick, I know he isn't a good QB, but this team isn't very good and at best it's a 1st round exit in the playoffs(again, at best). Let's just get 6-8 wins and have another great draft next year.

If Arian Foster is healthy and plays at a high level I believe we can challenge for a wild card spot in the AFC as long as we win the turnover battles week in and week out. The Texans were an NFL worst minus twenty (-20) in turnovers last season. 31 turnovers by the offense and only 11 turnovers forced by the defense. I believe we're going to see a huge improvement in that this year.

It's a good thing you guys drafted all that Defense, you're going to need it when you average 6 points a game.
