I think David Garrard is done until training camp. I heard he had another surgery on his back and his agent told teams to check back in June. In my opinion, Houston should either sign Jeff Garcia or convince Brett Favre to lace them up one more time. Favre would be good enough to manage this talented offense in a short amount of time. He'd be better than Jeff Garcia, IMO.

Gary Kubiak really likes T.J. Yates though. Maybe with a full week of practice with the first-team offense he will be more prepared for the Falcons. It's not like Yates was bad today (looked good when he had time to throw), but he just wasn't given the freedom to make big plays. Houston played a safe "vanila type offense" with a lot of short screen passes and they tried to run as much as possible. They couldn't convert many first downs in the second half playing that conservatively.

T.J. Yates completed a nice 14-yard pass to Andre Johnson in the 3rd quarter. Threw it into triple coverage but he threw it perfectly enough where only Andre Johnson could catch it. I was hoping to see more downfield passes after that but Houston was content to sneak out the victory and run as much clock as possible.

Maybe Matt Leinart's shoulder injury isn't as bad as it looked. I guess we'll find out in the next day or two.

The Titans do play the Bills (road) and the Saints (at home) their next two games. If they lose one or both that would help a lot.

But either way, the Texans have to find a way to beat the Falcons next Sunday. It's going to be tough no matter who the quarterback is. Atlanta is stacked on both sides of the ball and they can stop the run as well as any team in the NFL. It would be amazing if the Texans can win 6 games in a row. They're finding ways to win as a team. The defense is making the big plays when they have to.

Connor Barwin and J.J. Watt are both playing at an unbelievable level right now and the sacks are coming in bunches. Cushing, Ryans and Reed are making tackles all over the field. Johnathan Joseph was worth every penny he got in free agency. I'm so glad the Texans signed him instead of Nnamdi. Who knew he was that good? Maybe Bengal fans but man he's so much better than I thought he would be.

Wade Phillips has done some of the best coaching that I've seen in a long time. The number one defense in the league -- 2nd against the pass and 4th against the run. When Mario Williams was lost for the season, Brooks Reed took over and never looked back. Reed has recorded a sack in five straight games (6 total), added another one today.

T.J. Yates grew up a huge Falcons fan in Atlanta. Only fitting he makes his first career NFL start against the Falcons in Houston. He was live on the Texans "Inside the Game" show a few hours ago on ABC-13. He's already being asked by numerous family and friends for tickets. Says he's ready to lead the Texans to the playoffs. Seems confident for a rookie. The week of practice will do him a lot of good. He didn't get the chance to pass that much with limited passing plays today.

Against Atlanta, Yates may have to pass a lot. Especially if Atlanta gets the lead. Can't expect the Texans to play as poorly as they did today and beat a good team. They better get things rolling. I have faith in T.J. Yates.

Another positive: Yates worked out a lot with Andre Johnson when Andre Johnson was injured for the past month. They two of them got together every day and worked on a lot of passing drills. Andre Johnson says he's very comfortable with Yates. They hooked up on a nice 14-yard pass today. Need to see a lot more of that moving forward.

The game against Atlanta on Sunday is huge!!!!! Houston is at home, going for 6 wins in a row. It's time to get it done against a good team.

I'm ready for Sunday's game. Until then, nothing else matters. The 8-3 record, what people think, it's all hogwash to me.
