If you had told me before the game that the Patriots would finish the game with 24 points scored, I would have said that I feel pretty good about our chances to win with that many. The offense played superb game. Brady's performance was nothing short of heroic. I give the blame for this game to the Pats defense. Yes, I understand they lost Hightower and a fumble put them in a bad position once. But those are not spectacular excuses. They were playing a QB making his second career start in bad weather and ended up giving up 30 points. They had an opportunity to protect a late 14pt lead and couldn't. I think the defense may have been affected by the altitude because at the end they just couldn't stop the Broncos at all. The defense played a decent game on a night when the team really needed them to play a great game.
This leaves our 10-1 team in what feels like a state of shambles. The fact that the Pats had the earliest possible bye week was a big disadvantage, we could really use one now. Getting the Texans game pushed to primetime does not help matters at all, it keeps the pressure up. Things look like they could easily slide into oblivion very quickly. Right now, Tom Brady is Mufasa hanging on the edge of the cliff. The rest of the league would love nothing more than to get their shots in at him, and all they really need to do is come along, slap him down and let the wildebeest herd trample him.
Therefore, if I was Belichick, here's what I'd do:
*Take the whole first time offense off the active roster and replace their spots with practice squad guys. Let Jimmy and the 2nd team offense run the show this week.
*Tell the defense that they need to score more points than they allow this week against Philly.
Essentially, send a message that the defense needs to start outplaying the offense. The offense is in a really bad place right now, they need a chance to gather themselves.
Not a bad idea vs philly
