Davis is impressive size/speed combo, running a sub 4.5 40 at 6'4, 234 lbs... He's durable - played in all games in junior and senior years, 500+ snaps.
Guy's got tremendous upside... never reached full potential at Tech, though.
In 2009, he posted a position-record 43-inch vertical jump on the way to Super Iron Hokie honors during off-season workouts, earned 100% Effort Awards for five of the team’s six pre-spring 6 a.m. workouts. In 2010, he had a school-record 44-inch vertical jump and ran a 4.37 in the 40 to gain Super Iron Hokie honors during off-season workouts.
Flash forward to his pro day, and his vertical jump is only 39. It improved to 39.5 at the combine (which says something, considering some people believe pro day numbers get inflated). In 2011 and 2012, he was inconsistent on the field. Shined against the lesser opponents and stumbled against tough competition. He dropped too many balls, took a couple of plays off and those mistakes were magnified as the draft grew closer.
I'll tell you this. No WR was going to make great film on the Hokies last year. We sucked. The year before, Danny Coale and Jarrett Boykin were Tyrod Taylor's go-to guys and the offense was different.
If Marcus Davis can make an impact on special teams, he can get an opportunity down the line with Eli and really shine. But he's a UDFA with a long road ahead of him. So my expectations are, of course, tempered.
