Go with a franchise QB. Teddy is going to be Aaron Rodgers 2.0
Clowney will be like Mario, great athlete but doesn't hustle on every play like Watt.
You can likely take the top five or six quarterbacks in this draft class, throw their names in a hat and pick one, and there's a chance that the one you pick will be every bit as successful in the NFL as the next one given an equal learning opportunity playing for a quarterbacks guru like Bill O'Brien. One of them will surely be available in the second round. A guy like Jadeveon Clowney will not be available in round two. We have to be smart and trust our strengths and weaknesses as a team moving forward. Knowing that our weakness (quarterback play) can be coached up by a strength (coaching and playcalling).
Jadeveon Clowney would be coming to a really good defense already. Coached by one of the all-time greats when it comes to defensive coordinators - three Super Bowls in four years aka Romeo Crennel - anchored by All Pro J.J. Watt and assuming Brian Cushing is 100 % healthy, we're already loaded with talented and high-energy guys who can make big plays on defense.
Putting Jadeveon Clowney in that type of locker room and culture can only help mold him into a beast that plays with a high motor. We've got one of the best defensive lines coach in the NFL in Bill Kollar and an upbeat new linebackers coach in Mike Vrabel. As far as a personnel fit, I don't believe there's a better team for Clowney to go based on talent and coaching around him.
Scheme wise, playing in Romeo Crennel's versatile 3-4 defense, his athletic ability will be utilized by moving him around the field depending on the situation of the game. No different than when three-time Super Bowl champion and two-time All Pro Willie McGinest played for the Patriots. Romeo Crennel took advantage of his rare size and athleticism (6'5 and 270) from 2001 to 2004, using him as both a defensive end and outside linebacker.
Trust me our defensive coaches will find creative ways to make sure Clowney is a dominating factor out there on the field. Two months ago Bob McNair, the owner of the Texans, mentioned how Jadeveon Clowney is going to have his locker room right next to J.J. Watt if they draft him. I don't think there would be a better teammate for him to play with if you are concerned about his lack of hustle.
