Quote (draino @ Apr 29 2014 09:39am)
Go with a franchise QB. Teddy is going to be Aaron Rodgers 2.0
Clowney will be like Mario, great athlete but doesn't hustle on every play like Watt.

You can likely take the top five or six quarterbacks in this draft class, throw their names in a hat and pick one, and there's a chance that the one you pick will be every bit as successful in the NFL as the next one given an equal learning opportunity playing for a quarterbacks guru like Bill O'Brien. One of them will surely be available in the second round. A guy like Jadeveon Clowney will not be available in round two. We have to be smart and trust our strengths and weaknesses as a team moving forward. Knowing that our weakness (quarterback play) can be coached up by a strength (coaching and playcalling).

Jadeveon Clowney would be coming to a really good defense already. Coached by one of the all-time greats when it comes to defensive coordinators - three Super Bowls in four years aka Romeo Crennel - anchored by All Pro J.J. Watt and assuming Brian Cushing is 100 % healthy, we're already loaded with talented and high-energy guys who can make big plays on defense.

Putting Jadeveon Clowney in that type of locker room and culture can only help mold him into a beast that plays with a high motor. We've got one of the best defensive lines coach in the NFL in Bill Kollar and an upbeat new linebackers coach in Mike Vrabel. As far as a personnel fit, I don't believe there's a better team for Clowney to go based on talent and coaching around him.

Scheme wise, playing in Romeo Crennel's versatile 3-4 defense, his athletic ability will be utilized by moving him around the field depending on the situation of the game. No different than when three-time Super Bowl champion and two-time All Pro Willie McGinest played for the Patriots. Romeo Crennel took advantage of his rare size and athleticism (6'5 and 270) from 2001 to 2004, using him as both a defensive end and outside linebacker.

Trust me our defensive coaches will find creative ways to make sure Clowney is a dominating factor out there on the field. Two months ago Bob McNair, the owner of the Texans, mentioned how Jadeveon Clowney is going to have his locker room right next to J.J. Watt if they draft him. I don't think there would be a better teammate for him to play with if you are concerned about his lack of hustle.

I heard on the local sports show just now, courtesy of John McClain from the Houston Chronicle, the Texans have narrowed their choices down to two players with the first overall pick: Jadeveon Clowney or Johnny Manziel. He used the word 100 % certainty as well. The Texans will not trade the pick according to his sources, that talks with the Falcons were never really serious, and it's 50-50 on those two guys. We already have a poor man's Johnny Football in Case Keenum and we can draft a franchise quarterback in the second round. It makes more sense for us to go with Clowney as the top pick.

I'd love to have that incredible spark and excitement that Johnny Manziel provides but not at the risk of passing up on Jadeveon Clowney. Either way, it looks like our poker face is gone now if John McClain's inside sources are correct. Jadeveon Clowney or Johnny Manziel? Who would you guys draft number one overall between the two players?

Joel Klatt and Peter Schrager discuss Jadeveon Clowney. Hear what they say about the potential number one pick.

draino, do you have that feeling somebody good, quarterback wise, will fall into our laps at pick #33 in the second round?

I really like Jimmy Garappolo and Zach Mettenberger, in terms of second-round grades, but I'll be happy with Teddy Bridgewater if he falls. A lot of teams are rating Teddy Bridgewater as the 5th or 6th best QB in this draft class. If that's true then there's a good chance he'll slip into the second round.

"I love his game," Clowney said of Watt. "He can help me, and I can help him, hopefully. I've watched his game, in situations he gets double teams, triple teams on him, too. That could help me be a bigger factor on that defense."

Rick Smith is still trying to play up a possible trade? LOL

He says he knows who the Texans will draft number one overall if they use the first overall pick.

There is no way anybody around the league is going to buy that bluff. Trying to make some team like the Falcons pay a King's Ransom.

The Buffalo Bills and Atlanta Falcons are the two teams trying to trade up. But the Bills can't offer as much as the Falcons can.

Is it possible for the Buffalo Bills to trade for the top pick in the draft to pair Mario Williams with Jadeveon Clowney?

It's all ridiculous talk. Why would we allow Jadeveon Clowney to get away? Especially to the Bills who plucked Mario Williams away from us a few off-seasons ago? Six more nights of listening to this speculation and garbage. I'm ready for draft night!

Five more nights away. At this point the 2014 NFL Draft seems so close yet so far away. I just want to see the Houston Texans on the clock already. This has been a really long and boring off-season up to this point. After that tough Rockets loss last night and elimination from the NBA playoffs my excitement for sports is undeniably hindered. I'm not even sure how to regain my passion for draft night but I'll probably limp my way to Thursday night with a clear mind.

Four more nights away until the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. We've finally entered the official draft week!
Time to put away all of those mock drafts and gear up for the real thing. The anticipation turns into excitement.

Teddy Bridgewater's draft promo. I hope he falls into the Texans' laps at pick #33 in the second round.

A lot of people are starting to believe that only three QBs will be taken in the first round: Johnny Manziel, Blake Bortles and Derek Carr. I guess we'll see... If that is true we'll have our choice between Teddy Bridgewater, Jimmy Garoppolo and Zach Mettenberger at #33

I really like Jimmy Garoppolo and Zach Mettenberger as much as any of the quarterbacks in this draft class.
