Des Moines is actually a pretty awesome city. It's bigger than most people think, surprisingly progressive (third place in the country gay marriage was legalized, Marijuana is being talked about), and also surprisingly diverse. Iowa is like 4%~ non white, but every single brown person in the state lives in Des Moines.

However, you get ten minutes outside the city limits? Tornado's and meth labs.

Yeah I've been there a couple times and thought about moving there since I'm back.

I actually live in Shellsburg but lived in CR for 22 years. Yeah plan to move out in the spring. I can bring it i went to CO a few times to hold myself over.

I've never even heard of Shellsburg. Isn't Cedar Rapids right next to Omaha? I know Ames and Iowa city and that's fucking it. I try really, really hard to ignore the fact the rest of the state exists.

Nah we are towards Ill more (NE) side of the state about an hour or maybe two at most from Des Moines.

Shows what I know. Maybe it's Council Bluffs I'm thinking of.

But yeah, get the fuck out of there.
