It's always risky to draft a quarterback with the first overall pick. You have to be sure it's an Andrew Luck, Peyton Manning or Troy Aikman type of prospect. Guys like that don't come around very often. We've already been burned once selecting David Carr number one overall back in 2002. We had better success taking Mario Williams number one in 2006.
Taking the defensive beast is usually a safer bet. Mario Williams panned out as a two-time All Pro soon to be a three-time All Pro - maybe not a future Hall of Famer obviously - but he netted $100 million from the Bills in free agency and I think he's lived up to his first overall pick status. It's a shame we couldn't afford to keep him. I think Jadeveon Clowney is going to be even better than Mario Williams.
No one cares about what happened fuckin 12 years ago. David Carr had arguably one of the worst OL of all time with no support at all, terrible receiver corps and no run game at all. We have one of the best LT, C, with a good guard in Brandon Brooks and Brennan Williams has a lot of potential. We have a future HOF WR in Andre, a promising WR in Deandre, a very solid TE in Daniels, and even Garrett Graham and Ryan Griffin are solid backups.
In this era of football, you NEED a great QB to win a Super Bowl. Teddy isn't on the same level as Peyton, Luck, etc, but he's a damn good QB, very smart, and is a winner. He took over a mediocre Louisville team and made them contenders, and even won a BCS game against Florida, a SEC team
Our defense is going to need some help, but Clowney isn't the answer. He isn't a leader, and IMO doesn't have the passion. He was scared to get hurt this season, so he basically took off the entire year because he's a pussy, and only has 5 sacks(was only 3 before the game against Clemson). Reminds me a lot of Mario, a ton of talent, but not a leader and doesn't love the game like JJ Watt does and doesn't play 100% on every play. Give me Bridgewater over Clowney any day.
