What the heck happened to former Texans star running back Steve Slaton?

I heard he signed with a CFL team, the Toronto Argonauts.

In 2008 as a rookie with the Houston Texans he had 1,282 rushing yards with 13 total TDs (9 rushing TDs).
He was very much on par with any rookie running back from that draft class, aka Chris Johnson and Matt Forte.

It's a shame that Steve "Super Six" Slaton fell off the football world after 2009. His career was a bit of a fluke I guess. One good year as a rookie and that was it. If he were any good he'd at least still be a decent backup in the NFL. I wouldn't mind the Texans signing him to the league minimum if he had any good legs left, but I guess he's done when the CFL is the best he can do these days.

I have to watch old youtube highlights from his 2008 rookie season just to make sure he was as good as he was.

would you guys rather a qb or jadeveon, honestly?
i dont think you can progress without a qb

I want Jadeveon Clowney number one overall but I hope the Jaguars don't draft Johnny Manziel with the third pick. Facing him twice a year would be interesting though. I trust that the Texans can draft a good quarterback in the second or third round. This draft has a lot of interesting prospects. There are ten quarterbacks that I like in this class.

The Texans also had an aging Ahman Green in 2007 and 2008. I wish we had the younger version when he was an elite running back for the Packers.

12 days until the draft. A lot of talk about the Falcons trading up with the Texans for the first overall pick because they want Clowney.

The Texans would have to receive a boat load of picks, including the 6th overall pick. I still don't see it happening but we'll see.

11 more days! I'm starting to feel excited about the 2014 NFL draft but it's still far away. It will seem close once's it's one or two nights away. I'm already tired of hearing all of the trade rumors. If the Atlanta Falcons want Jadeveon Clowney then tough luck. I just don't see them putting together an enticing enough package.

Who the heck would we even draft at 6? The players I would want would likely be off the board. John McClain of the Houston chronicle mentioned in this morning's Sunday sports article if the Texans stay at 1 they'll select either Jadeveon Clowney or Johnny Manziel. If they trade down to 6 it will likely be for Blake Bortles or Khalil Mack. The only problem is you can't control who is available at 6 like you can at 1.

That Andre Johnson TD catch starting at 4:16. That was some grab. I still remember it being one of the better ones I watched last season.

Case Keenum had his moments last season despite having no reliable running game or pass protection.

9 more days away until draft day aka draft night. Finally the path to the 2014 NFL Draft is single digit days away now. Unless the Texans can find a trade it seems like they're leaning towards drafting Jadeveon Clowney number one overall with Johnny Manziel still in the mix. They're going to draft a quarterback with the first pick in the second round, pick #33 overall, if they go with Clowney in the first round.

At 3:01 they show Mike Mayock's quarterback rankings. I sure hope that Teddy Bridgewater drops to the second round even if it's unlikely. I'd be more than happy with either Jimmy Garoppolo or Zach Mettenberger as well. Derek Carr is interesting but his name scares me more than his talent. No matter which signal caller the Texans draft they want that rookie quarterback to sit and learn which is more likely to happen with a guy not selected first overall. So I anticipate round two is when we'll land our quarterback.

But if the Texans decide to draft Johnny Football number one overall then so be it. I'd still support that pick and be happy.

We can't afford to overthink this. Jadeveon Clowney in round one, quarterback in round two. We can knock out two pressing needs early on. And then in rounds three, four, five, six and seven, I'd focus on adding a nose tackle, offensive tackle, inside linebacker, perhaps a running back and we can pretty much add depth at wherever we see fit. Don't forget the Texans have two fourth-round picks, three sixth-round picks and two seventh-round picks.

The entire Houston Texans draft order in the 2014 NFL Draft

Round 1
Pick (overall)
1 (1). Houston Texans

Round 2
Pick (overall)
1 (33). Houston Texans

Round 3
Pick (overall)
1 (65). Houston Texans

Round 4
Pick (overall)
1 (101). Houston Texans
35 (135). Houston Texans (compensatory selection)

Round 5
Pick (overall)
1 (141). Houston Texans

Round 6
Pick (overall)
1 (177). Houston Texans
5 (181). Houston Texans (from Oakland Raiders)
35 (211). Houston Texans (compensatory selection)

Round 7
Pick (overall)
1 (216). Houston Texans
41 (256). Houston Texans (compensatory selection) - Mr. Irrelevant

Plenty of picks to fill all of our needs, IMO. Hopefully Rick Smith, Bill O'Brien and the entire scouting department take advantage of this draft.

Go with a franchise QB. Teddy is going to be Aaron Rodgers 2.0
Clowney will be like Mario, great athlete but doesn't hustle on every play like Watt.
