It’s not just Johnny Manziel visiting the #Texans today. Jadeveon Clowney is, too. Would be a fun day to be a fly on the wall at Reliant

Johnny Manziel visited the Texans around noontime. Jadeveon Clowney is finishing up his visit with the Texans right now. I have no idea how either of them went but those are two of the most intriguing players in the draft. I'll be shocked if they don't draft one or the other. I know Rick Smith is high on Khalil Mack but the head coach and owner are going to have a bigger say, IMO.

I agree. It's probably either Clowney or Manziel, and at this point I get the feeling it's going to be Clowney. The Texans have historically been a pretty conservative, low-risk decision making franchise (for better or worse) and Clowney seems to fit the bill in that aspect.

I like the way Zach Mettenberger throws the ball. Very quick release, strong arm and accurate. I'm not sure where exactly he should be drafted. First-round talent that will definitely be knocked back to the second or third round just because of his injury. He'd be an ideal fit for the Houston Texans because he could sit and learn Bill O'Brien's system for at least a year while Ryan Fitzpatrick starts. Ideally, I would like for the Texans to draft him with the first pick in the fourth round -- filling defensive needs in the first three rounds -- but it's unlikely he'll fall that far after his solid pro day workout yesterday.

(Associated Press) BATON ROUGE, La. — Wearing an LSU helmet, shoulder pads and a yellow practice jersey, Zach Mettenberger took a mock snap and rolled hard to his right, rifling passes to former LSU receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry.

Less than four months after reconstructive left knee surgery, Mettenberger came away from LSU’s pro day looking a lot like the quarterback who racked up 3,082 yards and 22 touchdowns last season.

“That was one of the biggest things we wanted to show,” Mettenberger said after Wednesday’s workout, which was viewed by numerous NFL personnel. “Just my knee health and mobility was a lot in question. I was able to roll out and throw accurate balls with something behind them."

“It was fun. I’ve been saying for a couple weeks now that I was healthy and good enough to go and I don’t think all of y’all believed me,” Mettenberger added. “The biggest thing I wanted to do is show that I could go out there, take an explosive drop and throw down field like everyone knows I can.”

Mettenberger’s college career ended as he unloaded a 32-yard completion to Landry during LSU’s regular season finale against Arkansas on Nov. 29. Taking a hit as he threw, Mettenberger tore his anterior cruciate ligament and sprained his medial collateral ligament. Doctors gave the latter injury time to heal before repairing the ACL in January with a piece of Mettenberger’s hamstring.

texans take clowney 1st overall...and then......drumroll......

with their 4th round pick, the houston texans select Connor Shaw, QB, South Carolina Gamecocks

tajh boyd would be a good pick too.

then they win the superbowl

Tajh Boyd has drawn some comparisons to Russell Wilson coming out of Wisconsin but a couple inches taller. He may not be a bad selection in round three or four if the Texans wait that long to draft a quarterback. Zach Mettenberger is a guy I'm starting to really like, especially if the plan is to sit him in 2014 and allow him to learn and fully recover from his ACL injury, Seems like he's already almost fully healed. In 2015 he can start and have a good grasp for Bill O'Brien's playbook. Given his solid pro day he probably put himself in position to be drafted in the third or fourth round.

I would say it's 60 % Clowney, 30 % Manziel and 10 % something else at this point. I really hope the Texans don't overthink this. Take the best player available and if not you take the hometown hero at quarterback and make the franchise more popular than the Dallas Cowboys for the next decade.

There are big billboard ads in downtown Houston promoting the Texans - likely some rich Texas A&M alumni - pointing out that the Houston Texans should draft Johnny Manziel. He'd be more popular in Houston as any great athlete who's ever played profesionall sports here. That includes Hakeem Olajuwon, Earl Campbell and Nolan Ryan.

College Station is only one hour north of Houston. The fan base for the Texans would spread like wild fire all over Texas. Even in Dallas there would probably be some Johnny Football fans as Tony Romo ages and becomes a non factor in the league. I sort of have my heart set on Jadeveon Clowney but I could definitely rally behind a Johnny Football pick at number one. He's a player that is fun to watch and he'll spark some immediate excitement for any team he plays for.

I believe Bill O'Brien's knowledge of quarterback play can mentor and polish any quarterback. Even a guy we can draft in the later rounds. He mentioned he's looking for another Tom Brady, in terms of qualities and leadership, which will be impossible to find. But don't forget that Tom Brady was a sixth-round pick coming out of Michigan. The type of quarterback Bill O'Brien may like may not be one of these highly-rated first round talents. It could be a guy we aren't even talking about that much right now.

It would be a lot of fun to watch Johnny Manziel working with Bill O'Brien. I'm not going to lie.
16 more days away. I'm definitely torn between Clowney and Manziel. We'll see what happens...

Good chance #Texans move down. Trade similar to Giants-Chargers trade, preaarnged to take Clowney for some other team.

Given Houston's need at the quarterback position, a trade down could give the club one of the draft's top quarterbacks later in the first round, plus additional picks to strengthen a roster that could also use help at the linebacker and right tackle positions. Who could be most interested? The Atlanta Falcons, for one, are bringing Clowney in for a visit Wednesday, and general manager Thomas Dimitroff spoke of a willingness to trade up at the NFL Scouting Combine.

That would be interesting because the Falcons have the 6th overall pick and would have to throw in several more picks as in their second, third and maybe next year's first-round pick just to make it a "can't pass up that type of trade offer" from the Texans perspective. I'm not sure if I like any trade scenario that doesn't involve us landing Jadeveon Clowney. He's too great of a player and freak of nature athletically to pass on.

Referring back to the 2014 NFL draft value chart...
http://www.draftcountdown.com/features/Value-Chart.php

The Texans 1st overall pick is worth 3000 points. The Falcon's #6 pick is worth 1600. Their #37 pick in round two is worth 530. Their #68 pick is round three is worth 250. Anything after round three just isn't worth much. So that's 2380 which is still way shorter than 3000.

If the Falcons added their first-round pick in next year's 2015 draft - which I believe the Falcons will have a bounce back year and be a decent 10-6 type of team - we can just assume they'll end up with the 20th or 21st overall pick. Those are worth 800 to 850 points. So I guess add that to the 2380 and it's well over 3000. It would take that type of offer from the Falcons just to give the Texans a good trade.

TL:DR: I'm not buying any trade talk or even general manager Rick Smith liking Khalil Mack more than Jadeveon Clowney. The Houston Texans will use their first overall pick on Jadeveon Clowney or Johnny Manziel. Only 15 more days to deal with all of these rumors and opinions.
