Our depth chart at tight end right now: Garrett Graham, Ryan Griffin and Zach Potter.

I really like Ryan Griffin a lot. He had 1 TD last season as a 6th-round rookie. Very big body and should improve in the red zone. All he needs is playing time. He should enter the 2014 as our number two and see the field a lot if Bill O'Brien plays some double TE formations. I wouldn't be shocked if he has a 5 or 6 TD season in 2014.

He showed some big play ability two years ago as a senior at UCONN. That's probably why he was drafted. His only weakness is his run blocking but that's something a player can improve on. You can't teach size and athleticism.

Wouldn't be surprised if Griffin becomes the #1 TE mid season. He's a bigger target, has better hands, and can block.

Sam Montgomery signed with the Cincinnati Bengals about an hour ago. The player with no work ethic, smokes marijuana every day and doesn't show up to team meetings. What a wasted third-round draft pick for the Texans in last year's draft. I had high hopes for him and he turned into a major disappointment.

A guy with his talents and collegiate pedigree at LSU - won numerous SEC awards playing for Les Miles - could have matured into a solid defensive lineman in the NFL. He was more of a defensive end in a 4-3 defense and not a good pass rusher in a 3-4 though. We never had a chance to see him hit the field last season. He was always out of shape.

Over-under on how long the Bengals keep him? I'll give it 5.5 days. The Oakland Raiders signed him on December 18 and released him on December 21. I was shocked anybody even signed him after the Texans released him last October. The guy has no pride or heart. All he wants to do is smoke weed and not do any work. Then again the Bengals are a team that hasn't won a playoff game since January 6, 1991. A team like that can afford to gamble on a player with incredible talent if he ever "GETS IT".

So that is what Brian Cushing has been doing this off-season. Working part time with the HPD?
That's just unreal. Looks like he's running at a different kind of speed. Not even human like.

It looks like Bo Jackson type of accelaration and speed from the original Tecmo Super Bowl on NES

Making Texas A&I (A&M-Kingsville) and NFL hall of famer Darrell Green proud of that effort...

John Elway isn't a bad first overall pick for an all-time draft. I'd probably draft Lawrence Taylor though.
We can likely pick up somebody like Troy Aikman or Randall Cunningham in the second or third round.

If every player in NFL history were available in an imaginary NFL Draft, who would go off the board first overall to the Houston Texans? Dave Dameshek, Elliot Harrison and Daniel Jeremiah find out which signal caller becomes the top overall pick.

Joe Montana, Lawrence Taylor, Barry Sanders, Jerry Rice, and Reggie White come to mind.

It's possible Steve Young, Warren Moon or Roger Staubach will drop to the first pick in the second round as well.
I think it would be unstoppable if you put Lawrence Taylor on the same defense as J.J. Watt. #DreamTeamDefense

17 days (nights is more like it) until the first round of the 2014 NFL Draft. The latest word from the Houston Texans regarding the first overall pick is pretty much that they're keeping their options open, but at this point they seem to have it narrowed down to five players assuming they don't trade down.

I received this bit of information from a Texans scout on the local radio show this morning. Some good insiders had to dig it up but I think it's interesting nearly two weeks away from the draft. Head coach Bill O'Brien prefers Jadeveon Clowney number one, general manager Rick Smith likes Khalil Mack as the top pick, and owner Bob McNair would like to draft Jonny Maniziel, no surprise, as he'd be a cash cow and bring in a lot of money for Bob McNair and the organization. Blake Bortles and Teddy Bridgewater are still in the conversation but they don't seem to be on the Texans' big three draft board.

I think it's telling when the quarterback guru wants the defensive player. Maybe it's just the fact that Bill O'Brien feels comfortable he can mentor and mold a quarterback from the second round. So if that's the case it seems like the Texans will either draft Jadeveon Clowney or Khalil Mack.

Texans GM reportedly likes Khalil Mack over Clowney

Jadeveon Clowney is the most popular pick among draftniks to go No. 1 overall in the 2014 NFL Draft. However the uber-athletic pass rusher from South Carolina might not even be the top defensive player on the Houston Texans' board.

TheMMQB.com's Peter King reported Monday that a "friend of Rick Smith" said the Texans general manager likes Buffalo product Khalil Mack over Clowney.

The news that Smith might prefer Mack over Clowney could be scheme-related. Mack would better fill the need for an outside linebacker in the Texans' 3-4 defense, while Clowney appears more suited as a defensive end in a 4-3 scheme.

The leak might also be an effort to drum up trade chatter if the Houston brass decides it would like to pass on Clowney, but want to pick up additional assets for their effort.

Deep in the foggy haze of smokescreen season, the prospect of the Texans taking Mack over Clowney -- or their quarterback of choice -- feels like the biggest façade yet. The draft still sits an excruciating 17 days away.

Personally, I believe Bill O'Brien will get his way since he's the new head coach. Rick Smith is already on thin ice and should be lucky he wasn't fired along with Gary Kubiak and Wade Phillips. I feel confident Jadeveon Clowney will be the top pick if Bill O'Brien gets his way. I haven't heard Romeo Crennel say much but I don't think he cares either way. He'll end up with a great defensive player whether it's Clowney or Mack.

I just think it's remarkable that the head coach, general manager and owner all have different visions as to who should be the top pick this close to the draft. Hopefully they will have settled on one guy soon. They have 17 more days and nights to figure it out. I haven't been this nervous about a potential first overall pick, in any sport, because this one decision could make or break the Texans franchise for the next six to ten years.
