Clowney would be legit.

Our defensive line would set a precedent.

I like the way Zach Mettenberger throws the ball. Very quick release, strong arm and accurate. I'm not sure where exactly he should be drafted. First-round talent that will definitely be knocked back to the second or third round just because of his injury. He'd be an ideal fit for the Houston Texans because he could sit and learn Bill O'Brien's system for at least a year while Ryan Fitzpatrick starts. Ideally, I would like for the Texans to draft him with the first pick in the fourth round -- filling defensive needs in the first three rounds -- but it's unlikely he'll fall that far after his solid pro day workout yesterday.

(Associated Press) BATON ROUGE, La. — Wearing an LSU helmet, shoulder pads and a yellow practice jersey, Zach Mettenberger took a mock snap and rolled hard to his right, rifling passes to former LSU receivers Odell Beckham Jr. and Jarvis Landry.

Less than four months after reconstructive left knee surgery, Mettenberger came away from LSU’s pro day looking a lot like the quarterback who racked up 3,082 yards and 22 touchdowns last season.

“That was one of the biggest things we wanted to show,” Mettenberger said after Wednesday’s workout, which was viewed by numerous NFL personnel. “Just my knee health and mobility was a lot in question. I was able to roll out and throw accurate balls with something behind them."

“It was fun. I’ve been saying for a couple weeks now that I was healthy and good enough to go and I don’t think all of y’all believed me,” Mettenberger added. “The biggest thing I wanted to do is show that I could go out there, take an explosive drop and throw down field like everyone knows I can.”

Mettenberger’s college career ended as he unloaded a 32-yard completion to Landry during LSU’s regular season finale against Arkansas on Nov. 29. Taking a hit as he threw, Mettenberger tore his anterior cruciate ligament and sprained his medial collateral ligament. Doctors gave the latter injury time to heal before repairing the ACL in January with a piece of Mettenberger’s hamstring.

27 days away until draft night on Thursday, May 8. That's now less than four weeks away. I'm starting to feel like it's just around the corner. The Houston Texans don't have much time left to make up their minds on the number one overall pick. Usually we start to know which player they are negotiating a potential contract with a week before the draft.

Although back in 2006 they kept everything tight lipped up until two nights before the draft when news broke out that they had reached a contract agreement with Mario Williams. I guess we'll see what happens this time around. Unless they plan to field some trading offers all the way until they are on the clock, I can't imagine they will take their sweet time and keep everybody guessing.

The closer and closer draft night gets the more and more I believe that Jadeveon Clowney will be the number one overall pick.
There are too many promising quarterbacks who will not be selected in the first round. The Texans will have some options, IMO.
I just don't see a clear cut winner out of Bridgewater, Manziel and Bortles. I'd rather gamble on a guy like Zach Mettenberger.

Jimmy Garoppolo, Zach Mettenberger, AJ McCarron: One of these guys will still be on the board when we come up at pick #33 in round two. I don't like Derek Carr as much as everybody else - too much like his older brother (his last bowl game proved that) - but it's possible he could surprisingly slip out of the first round.

If we try to risk it and wait until the first pick in round three or four, our choices will soon become Tajh Boyd and Aaron Murray. We shouldn't wait too long to draft a quarterback. Tajh Boyd has drawn some comparisons to Russell Wilson and Aaron Murray, pre ACL injury, was drawing comparisons to Drew Brees from his Purdue days. So I wouldn't be against selecting a high-reward, low-risk guy in the middle rounds. Logan Thomas from Virginia Tech is another guy who would project to be a mid-to-late round pick. Tom Savage out of Pittsburgh and Connor Show from South Carolina fit that description also.

I know one thing: Bill O'Brien has studied all of these quarterbacks. He knows who he can and can't succeed with.

There isn't much to negotiate. The #1 overall pick receives 4 years, 22 million, in accordance with the new CBA.

I forgot the rules changed. I was thinking back to 2006 when we drafted Mario Williams number one overall.

Clowney in the first.
Mettenberger or Garoppolo in the second.

No need to spend the #1 pick on a QB when the dropoff to second round QB's doesn't look that big and Clowney is hands-down the #1 talent in the draft at a position we need.

Zach Mettenberger could become the best quarterback in this draft class if he sits in 2014 and learns a lot like Aaron Rodgers was able to do in Green Bay. When he's 100 % healthy in 2015 this is a guy that can play in any system and make every throw. If not for his ACL injury he'd probably be rated better than Blake Bortles according to Mel Kiper Jr.

I'm worried that the Arizona Cardinals (20) or Cleveland Browns (26) could pluck Mettenberger or Garoppolo late in round one but we'll see who drops to the Texans at 32. The Browns will probably draft their quarterback with the 4th overall pick. A lot of talent at the position in this draft class. Everybody is so focused on Bridgewater, Manziel and Bortles but four or five years from now they may not be the best NFL quarterback from this class.

No need to grab a QB at 33 if there isn't any QB worth taking either. BPA.

Nice Owen Daniels sig, is he your favorite Texan? or maybe Leach? or is your favorite still Jacoby Jones?

I'd love to see the Texans draft all defense in round one, two and three. We can build a strong pass rush and even land a much needed beast at nose tackle if we took one of those big DTs in round two. The kind of two-gap, run-stuffing 350-pound nose tackle that Romeo Crennel likes. Take a quarterback with the first pick in round four. The Texans could have a dominating defense and pass rush for the next four, five, six years. That would be an incredible backbone to the team. Teams that have a good defense and run game generally make the playoffs even in today's passing league.
