I know Khalil Mack won't fall to us but I hope Anthony Barr does and we take him. We could put him at OLB in 4-3 and could put him at DE in nickel packages

3?...probably more than that...our secondary isn't even mediocre, linebacking needs upgrading...our Dline is fine...only thing up in the air is Suh and them pressuring Fairley..we signed Tate...you think they will draft Watkins of Evans and put Tate at 3rd/slot? Highly unlikely...but like I said...if they don't go WR in the first, I hope they go ham on defense...

You think the DEFENSE lost more than 3 games last year? I would actually disagree. After going through the games I can only see 2 that they lost us...
Edit: Bolded games are the one's I am giving you

Games we lost:

Week 2 - Arizona --> Lost this game 21 to 25. Lions lost TOS 28:41 - 31:19. Lions held rushing to under 100 yards. However, one of our TDs was scored by a pick 6. Also, Stafford fumbled the ball. Our offense only scored 14 points. We were 3/11 on 3rd down attempts. Arizona was 1/11. Our defense held them on 3rd down but our offense could not score.

Week 5 - Green Bay --> We lost 9 to 22. Lions lost TOS 27:41 - 32:19. Lions held Eddie Lacy under 100 yards. Lions and Packers had fairly equal 3rd down attempts (7/15 to 7/16). However this game is this simple. Green Bay (one of the most potent offenses in the league) had a bad game. Our defense held them to 22 points. GB was 0-2 in the redzone. They only allowed ONE touchdown to Aaron rodgers. The rest were all FGs. But our offense once again did nothing. Calvin was out this game, but this was the first time it was apparent that without him we couldn't do anything.

Week 7 - Cincinnati

Week 11 - Pittsburg --> We lost 27 to 37. Lions lost TOS 27:44 - 32:16. Our defense held their rush game to under 100 yards. Both the lions and the Steelers were 6/16 on 3rd down attempts. However, there were 2 fumbles and and interception that kept our defense on the field. Pretty hard to win when your offense / ST turns the ball over 3 times.

Week 12 - Tampa Bay --> We lost 24 to 21. Lions dominated TOS 33:22 - 26:38. We dominated in yards, too. Lions held TB rushing game under 100 yards again. Lions defense had 4 sacks. But the lions offense turned the ball over 5 times. 5. You cannot win a game when you turn the ball over 5 times.

Week 14 - Philly --> Although LeSean McCoy destroyed our defense in the 4th quarter... 3 fumbles did not help our cause. Tbh, I'll blame our "defense" for this one, but I really blame coaching for not being able to adjust.

Week 15 - Baltimore --> Not even going into the stats of this game. Our defense dominated this game. The Ravens never scored a TD. If our offense cannot win when the other team doesn't get a TD.... (Ok one stat to go with this one... Stafford had 3 picks)

Week 16 - Giants --> We lost 23 - 20 in OT. We destroyed them in TOS 37:45 - 29:43. Tell me how your offense only scored 2 touch downs when they have the ball 37 minutes of the game. Our defense got a pick and a fumble... however, naturally our offense also had 3 turnovers. Fairly also got us a safety.

Week 17 - Vikings --> We lost 14 to 13. We won TOS 32:37 - 27:23. However we could only score 1 TD. Once again Megatron wasn't in the game... and our offense showed how much it hurt because of it. Our defense even got 2 turnovers that game and we were unable to do anything with them.

OK, while I appreciate that you took the time to do that and I really don't want to argue with you, but none of what you posted shows why we need a WR in the first round, and you even admitted on the philly game it was our coaching, which many of us Lions fans would say that was the problem most of this year, though our defense was pretty stout this past year, and never did I say it wasn't, the fact is our opponents had more points than us at the end of the game, our defense no matter how good, gives up big plays when they need big stops, so I guess a question I ask you...do you think Seattle's offense was better than ours? Last year obviously.

First half of the year, no.
Second half of the year, yes.

And yes, our opponents had more points than us... but that isn't all on the defense. Our defense can give up nothing... if we can't score, we can't win. I mean, we lost a game to the vikings... who scored 14 points. We lost a game to the Ravens... who never scored a TD. These games are all you can ask a defense to do... and we are losing them.

And okay, so SEA had an elite defense last year and won the superbowl. Lets take a few of the sueprbowls in the past few years.

The NYG had an awful secondary.
The Packers had a bad secondary.
The Saint's secondary was nothing special.

I agree you need to have a defense to go all the way. I don't think you need what SEA had last year, though. It is very possible to win with a good pass rush and a mediocre secondary... which is what we have been building.

sorry, was watching the Wings game. I guess my point is I feel we have the pieces on the offense to get done that we need to do, especially with the new coaching staff, but if we can solidify our defense I think we will have a better time winning games. And always good to have a civil conversation with ya Shroom :D

Lol. Sorry if it ever sounds like I get a little heated... just how I argue.

I won't be disappointed if we draft defense. However, if Watkins and/or Evans are available... I think we should (and will) draft them.
However, I also believe that we are going to trade up... or maybe down. Mayhew said he doesn't believe that there are "10 elite guys" in the draft. So I don't know if that means he wants to go up to get one... or go down to get more picks.
Also, yeah... it's hard to say what we will do with the new staff. I mean our HC was an OC so I would guess he'd focus offense harder... but who knows

not at all Shroom, you and I usually have good conversations with valid points on both sides in my opinion, and yes we will see how they will handle the draft, past few years have been pretty good

With Xanders still there, I think the drafts will continue to be good
Hopefully Mayhew picks up a few things from him

yeah I was actually relieved to hear that Xanders stayed, and hopefully he does rub off on Mayhew, I can say I am happy the Millen era is over, even if Mayhew was under him during his regime..

I think Anthony Barr makes sense at 10. He is freakishly athletic and would be an awesome edge rusher opposite ziggy in certain packages while playing OLB in our base defense

Who is someone that is frequently mocked to us that you absolutely DONT want?
