I own a siding company. We do all types of exterior work, but I specialize in custom homes with wood trim and aluminum wrapping.
http://www.townersiding.com/ has some of my work on it. I have been so busy I haven't added anything new lately. No need really though, I'm past the point of needing to scrounge up jobs, but it's nice for people to see what you have done and it makes them more comfortable turning you loose on their home.


Yeah I have been bidding jobs higher lately, but I have a bunch to do yet at lower rates that I bid earlier off blueprints before they were built.

Gotcha. About a year ago when I was out of a job I ran into an old basketball coach who owned his own construction company and he hired me. Made me his bitch for 10 an hour. We did boaring or boring - however it is spelt - as his main jobs then also did random jobs in between work like installing the water line from the main road to a house etc.

Was the hardest work I've ever done. Digging in the freezing cold when the ground was frozen solid for shit money. But it was better than nothing

Most of my guys make $17+ hr cash. I start guys at $10 until I can see what they can do. I gave all my guys a $200 bonus this week, except one guy I gave $100 because he missed a day.

Yeah most guys around where I live doing that kinda work make right around 20 give or take a couple dollars based on experience etc.

He just knew I needed it plus it's not like his company is wealthy or anything. I definitely got taken advantage of but I mean I didn't have any other income at the time so beggers can't be choosers. Was really good experience for me. I learned to be responsible etc because I don't wanna do that kinda work or be unemployed ever again (no offense to your profession or anything I just got worked extremely hard)

Like this week I put in 60 hours but I mean I'd rather 60 hours of what I'm doing now than 40 of what I was

That's why I got into siding. It's light and easier than most other construction jobs and it pays well. I owned a drywall company for about 6 years and it was hard ass work compared to what I do now. I'm the boss so I don't really have to do much I don't want to anymore. I know what you mean about being taken advantage of though. I see it all the time in the industry. I try to be fair to my guys and give them bonuses if I make more money. It keeps them motivated and they are happy to get some extra money they weren't counting on.
