A lot of double blockers slowed him down. Big drop off for J.J. Watt this season facing the same constant attention from offenses (20.5 to 10.5 sacks). You won't be able to use four blockers on both players. Drafting Jadeveon Clowney will make Watt more effective and our defense will be good for the next seven or eight years. We'll be able to cause some havoc on precious Andrew Luck twice a year.

That really isn't true and you know that, Clowney has been facing double teams since his freshmen season.

You also have to factor in the injuries he dealt with this season. He mentioned the foot injury and how he's feeling better now. He's not going to have foot surgery. Also he expects to be the first overall pick and I don't doubt that at all. This guy is a total beast and here's hoping to good health moving forward.

He had to get a surgery on his jaw after that game and was put on a strict diet, which is why he was only 200 lbs.

He had a broken jaw in the 1st quarter of that game and he still managed to beat the #3 Florida, a team Johnny Manziel couldn't beat at his own house.

Before that Sugar Bowl game, he was playing against Rutgers with a broken wrist and won after being down 11(his backup QB started).

So fuck Clowney and his excuses.

If we do not draft Teddy Bridgewater the Jaguars probably will with the third overall pick and we'll face him twice a year just like Andrew Luck. But as much as I like Teddy Bridgewater, I don't want to draft somebody just because I'm worried about a division rival selecting them. If we can build a strong defense with a stacked front seven and relentless pass rush there isn't a quarterback who would worry me.

I want the backbone of our team to be all about having a great defense. It's about having a competitive franchise and playoff team for seven or eight years in a row. We made the playoffs only twice in twelve seasons since becoming an expansion team in 2002. That's just not good enough. We already know what it feels like to draft a quarterback number one overall and how far it sets the team back if he doesn't pan out.

Having a franchise quarterback is nice but you can find one outside of the first round. Russell Wilson was a mid third-round pick (75th overall). Nick Foles was a late third-round pick (88th overall), for example. We can draft a young quarterback at pick 33 which is the first pick in the second round. We can groom him for a year or two. I wouldn't start him right away and I'd sign a veteran quarterback in free agency to start Week 1 of the 2014 season. We still have Matt Schaub signed to a fairly large multi-year contract but he'll probably be released after June the 1st.

We'll see what happens. I just think that right now our defense is in shambles. We still have a ton of talent offensively.
Case Keenum was good enough to keep us in games last year. If we had a healthy Arian Foster we'd probably have gone 7-9.

LOL

Case Keenum could have easily won five of those close games. Considering he had no run game to help him out and a bad defense. He went toe-to-toe with the great Tom Brady in a 34-31 thriller. He out-shined Andrew Luck (350 passing yards, 3 TDs and 0 INTs) in that game we stormed out to a 21-3 halftime lead over the Colts. We had no run game to fall back on. He was an unproven QB who finished the year with over 1700 passing yards, 9 TDs and 6 INTs, most of the picks coming late in the season.

I feel kind of bad for Gary Kubiak because we weren't able to utilize his West Coast offense properly. The play-action passes weren't even an option and that used to be our bread and butter. Defenses won't bite on it if your running game sucks. We had Ben Tate starting games with broken ribs and he was so horrible that one of his games he had 10 carries for 12 yards (1.2 yards per carry). It was a disaster to watch.

Colin Kaepernick is another talented franchise QB who the 49ers drafted early in round two back in the 2011 draft (36th overall). He's another example of a guy not taken in the first round to go along with Russell Wilson and Nick Foles like I mentioned in my previous post above. All those teams have strong run games to assist them. They also have great defenses. Well, in the Eagles case they have tons of talent on defense even if it's not statistically as dominating as the Seahawks and 49ers.

He was only good in like first 2 games because no one had tape on him. He was horrible after.

Let's say we do draft a quarterback first overall: Johnny or Teddy?
I'll say this for Manziel. He played against a lot of top teams in the SEC

I watched an hour of film on Jimmy Garoppolo and I'm very impressed albeit against weaker competition. If we do decide to draft Jadeveon Clowney number one we better end up with that talented Eastern Illinois kid in round two or three. I doubt he'll fall into the fourth round because his stock has been rising fast ever since the East-West shrine game and Senior Bowl practices.

We can release Schaub and Yates: Go into training camp with Garoppolo, Keenum and a veteran QB that we sign in free agency. I'm still torn on Manziel, Bridgewater and Bortles. So much so that I think we should just bypass all three and go with Clowney at 1 and Garoppolo at 33

I want Jadeveon Clowney very much that I may feel disappointed if we don't draft him. There are talented QBs we can select in the second round.
