Manziel went against the best and played well. But he's also played some shitty teams. In 2012 he played 2 FCS teams (Sam Houston St and South Carolina St), Louisiana Tech, and SMU. Last year he played against SMSU, Rice, UTEP, and SMU. They aren't exactly world beaters. Let's not forget that he got shut down by LSU twice.
Bridgewater played some really weak teams as well, but he still beat great teams and played great, even in losses. Point is, they both played some great teams and they both played some shitty teams. Bridgewater's offense is a pro style offense, so they aren't really set up for destroying teams or putting up 50 points every week, which is why he has a lot of conservative passes.
Just looked up rankings, and Texas A&M played the 26th hardest schedule and Louisville played the 103rd hardest schedule. There's a big disparity there. Yeah, Manziel played some bad teams too, but his conference play was in the SEC. Before this championship game, that Conference had won 7 straight championships. And this year, over 1/3 of early draft entries are from the SEC. Obviously, and it goes without saying, the SEC is a really, really good conference.
Point is, Manziel put up better numbers against tougher opponents. In college, numbers don't mean everything but I think that they do indicate some things. Just watching both of these QB's in games, it looks like Manziel is more talented and had a larger influence on the outcome of the game. A&M's defense couldn't stop a nose bleed last season, and Manziel kept them in a lot of games that didn't belong in and willed his team to victories. With Bridgewater, he's good, solid, makes smart decisions, but I don't think he influenced the outcome of the game as much Manziel did - but few players can.
Ryan, what do you think? Who should we take?
