Need to unfortunately cut Webster or he has to agree to take MUCH MUCH less to stay :(

Diehl as well

Webster performance has been horrible last season, so he should take cut.

2013 NFL Draft - Trenches (OL)

Sy'56 : 4:43 pm

A lot of discussion, and rightfully so, has been centered around re-tooling the offensive and defensive lines for NYG. A lot of questions for both the present and future on both sides of the ball. Personally, I am still under the classic belief that with every play starting at the point of attack, a team should consistently look the upgrade the personnel.

The Giants have enough young talent on the offensive side...but the question is quality. Brewer, Mosley, McCants are all unknowns. If they turn out to be something, great. But draft decisions cannot be made based around any of them. With that said, I'm not sure the round 1 value is going to be there at #19 unless Warmack is somehow available. But as we get in to rounds 2-3-4, I really like a few names that have the NFL body and power presence right away, and lateral mobility to play in the Giants blocking scheme.

Alvin Bailey - G - Arkansas - 6'3/312

Bailey unexpectedly declared after his junior year. He was, however, the top OL on their squad. Three year starter. Has never missed a game. Bailey actually finished with the same grade as Jonathan Cooper on my board. He has big time weight room strength. Translates well to the field. Balanced athlete with nice knee bend. Doesn't always play low enough, but its not a physical limitation thing. Has the tools. Tremendous footwork. Very light, but powerful. Very long arms, extends well and locks on.

I think Bailey could be had in round 3. I think he is a year one starter. Hidden value here.

Dallas Thomas - G - Tennessee - 6'5/306

Still recovering from an injury, so he needs to be checked on over the next month. On the field, one of the most versatile and reliable linemen in this class. A lot of experience at tackle and guard. Long athlete. Appears to be stiff at times, but he recovers well and plays with his feet. Smart player. Some of his best tape has been against his toughest competition, I really like that when watching these prospects. With such a foggy future along the entire front, a guy that can step in and play multiple spots may be the way to go.

Thomas will likely be there in round 2, not so confident about round 3.

Chris Barker - G - Nevada - 6'3/305

I've seen 3+ games now on Barker and I'm sold on him. He isn't a sexy name, but talent evaluators can see a starting caliber guard here. Great pass blocker. Shadows smaller, quicker defenders with ease. Light feet but has a lot of balance and power to him. ROad grader as a straight ahead run blocker. May not be ready for the lateral game yet, but he is a good athlete.

3rd/4th rounder here...would be nice value.

And a few OTs...

Manelik Watson - OT - Florida State - 6'5/310

At first, I was turned off by those that labeled this guy a potential star because of athletic ability. I don't buy in to players like that until I see quality performance on film. Truth be told, Watson looked terrible in workouts. His times are scary bad. However you put the tape on, and Watson shows a tremendous amount pf promise. He is visibly raw and somewhat new to the game, but he is tough, hard nosed player. Very flexible and powerful Good timing. He played RT at FSU and I think he stays there. Much more upside than Fluker.

One of the more interesting stories in the draft. I actually graded him out at 76 which is a solid top 40-45 slot in all likelihood. Drafting him in round 2 would be OK, but round 3 would be ideal. I'd take him over McCants and Brewer.

Reid Fragel - OT - Ohio State - 6'8/310

When I discussed Lane Johnson's probable rise in to round 1 back in September, I remember watching Fragel that same day and seeing a lot of similarities. Fragel was a tight end up until this past spring. He put some weight on and played RT for the undefeated Buckeyes at a high level. Seemed hesitant with his hands early in the year, but flat out dominated a couple opponents as the season went on. Very light feet. Nice, healthy frame. Long arms.

More of a one year project that will need time. But as a 5th/6th round pick, I like the idea.

I'll try to get to some similar DL thoughts tomorrow.

Tom Coughlin ‘absolutely’ believes deal will get done with Victor Cruz

Quote
Tom Coughlin wants Victor Cruz to be part of the Giants for a very long time and he "absolutely" believes that he will be.

That's why Coughlin isn't worried about the on-again, off-again contract talks between the Giants and their star receiver. Cruz is scheduled to become a restricted free agent next week and the two sides don't appear close to a long-term extension.

Preaching patience, Coughlin said "These things take time."

"Absolutely I think it'll get done," Coughlin said before signing copies of his new book, Earn the Right to Win, at a Barnes & Noble in Manhattan on Tuesday.

"These things take time, as much as we'd all like them to happen now. It's a process."

That process could end up taking up to a year because Cruz isn't scheduled to be an unrestricted free agent until March, 2014. On March 12 he'll become a restricted free agent and the Giants, according to a source, are likely to give him a "first-round tender" worth $2.879 million. That would essentially take the 26-year-old off the open market for now since the Giants could then match any offer he receives and would be entitled to a first-round pick in compensation from the team that signs him if they don't.

I want Webster back if he agrees to take much much less, he still has a lot left in the tank, just had an off year.. it happens.

Diehl I'd want for the vet min to serve as depth, nothing more.
