This guy must not realize the Texans may move to a 4-3 defense with a new coaching staff next year. We don't even have the personnel to run a proper 3-4 defense right now. I'm a little hesitant on Jadeveon Clowney only because of his off-the-field antics and his questionable dedication to the game. When people say he doesn't play hard every game but he can dominate anytime he wants to that really bothers me.

It's impossible to say who the Texans will target if they end up with the first overall pick. At least right now, when we don't even know who the new head coach is. Mel Kiper Jr. suggested a few days ago that the Texans should select Anthony Barr number one overall ahead of Teddy Bridgewater and Jadeveon Clowney.

Report: Texans Interested in Nick Saban

Finbaum just said he is hearing the #Texans are interested in Saban.

Those wondering - Bill Belichick went 6-10, 7-9, 7-9 his first three years in Cleveland. Saban went 9-7 and 6-10 with Miami.

Quote
Longtime Alabama sports talk show host Paul Finebaum (ESPN, SEC Network) mentioned that the Houston Texans have shown interest in current Alabama Crimson Tide Head Coach Nick Saban. Saban has been with Alabama since 2007 and won three National Championships (2009, 2011, 2012) since arriving to Tuscaloosa. At Alabama, Saban has posted a 74-14 record and recruited some top NFL talent for his Crimson Tide teams.

Saban has also had stops at Michigan State, LSU and the Miami Dolphins as a head coach and holds a 165-56-1 (college record) and a 15-17 (NFL record).

Currently Saban has been tied to the opening that is supposed to come open later this week when University of Texas Head Coach, Mack Brown is set to resign from the position. All signs have Saban being the next head coach in Austin, but this is coming as a late development and another head coaching candidate for the Texans.

Not sure what to think of this. I'd rather he end up in Austin, Texas and coach the Texas Longhorns.
But come to think of it, he didn't do a bad job coaching the Dolphins, going 9-7 and 6-10 in two seasons.
There are a lot of all-time great head coaches throughout NFL history who struggle early on before having success.

Great segment on Teddy Bridgewater and his mother on ESPN last night. He's an easy guy to cheer for. I'm actually excited about the possibility of drafting him so long as the Texans new head coach is an offensive mind or if he hires a good offensive coordinator. Upgrading the right tackle position is very important also.

Teddy Bridgewater is a winner who can make big plays. He showed me a lot of heart and toughness in that overtime win against Cincinnati in his last game. Throwing for 3 TD passes but also a huge first down run where he refused to come up short. I'm ready to see what he can do against the Miami Hurricanes in the Russell Athletics Bowl on Saturday, December 28. 6:45 PM Eastern on ESPN.

I also want to watch Jadeveon Clowney and South Carolina play Wisconsin in the Capital One Bowl on Wednesday, January 1 at 1:05 PM Eastern on ABC.

By the way guys, I think the Broncos losing last night was a very good thing for the Texans. They will now "play to win" at Houston next Sunday. If they haven't clinched the first seed in the AFC Playoffs then they will not rest players yet. And the Colts will definitely play hard at home against the Texans this Sunday. I watched Chuck Pagano's interview on the NFL Network and he has no plans to rest any starters in this upcoming game. He wants the Colts to enter the playoffs on a winning streak and with some momentum.

The final game of the season at Tennessee worries me because it's been a long time since the Texans lost to the Titans. However, the loser of the Redskins and Falcons game this Sunday may win one of their final two games. The Texans may end up with the first pick even if they beat the Titans in the final game. So that's something to watch going into these final three games.

Pretty simple logic for the Texans to end up with the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft: Lose all three games left against the Colts, Broncos and Titans. Lose two of the final three games left, along with a Falcons and Redskins tie this Sunday, or if the loser of that game wins one of their final two games.

Considering the Rams have the Redskins' high draft pick, they have nothing to gain from losing. They will probably lose at Atlanta this Sunday but maybe they can catch the Cowboys or Giants by surprise in one of the final two games. Kirk Cousins also wants to play well to potentially increase his off-season trading value. I actually applaud Mike Shanahan's decision to bench Robert Griffin III and save his future health for the off-season workouts. Even though he's probably going to be fired soon.

The 2014 NFL Draft positioning

1. Texans 2-12
2. Rams (from Redskins) 3-11

Way too many teams to list that have 4 wins and at this point I'm not worried about them.
With two games left, all the Texans have to do is lose both games and we'll clinch the first overall pick.
It's simply a two-team race now. And since the Rams have the Redskins' pick the Redskins may as well try their best to win.

Texans remaining games: Broncos, at Titans
Redskins remaining games: Cowboys, at Giants
All of those games start at 1:00 PM eastern (early kickoffs)

The Texans can clinch the first pick on Sunday with a loss to the Broncos and a Redskins win over the Cowboys.
And if the Texans lose to the Broncos as expected they're guaranteed a top two pick in the draft no matter what.

Should it go down to the final game, a Redskins win over the Giants or Texans loss to the Titans (either one happening) will work as well.
Oh yeah, Peyton Manning is about to come into Reliant Stadium and light up our defense like old times. I can't wait for that fun showdown.

A couple of interesting names may pop up if they're eventually fired. Jason Garrett as a potential offensive coordinator. Jim Schwartz as a potential defensive coordinator. If Lovie Smith becomes the Texans' new head coach like many people expect, I heard he may look to hire some experienced guys as coordinators. We just need to finish these last two games and wait until things pick up on the coaching front.

If the Texans do get the top pick, should they take the athletic marvel in Jadeveon Clowney or roll with Johnny Manziel?

These guys must assume the Texans don't have any interest in Teddy Bridgewater or Derek Carr. Possibly Anthony Barr or Jake Matthews.

South Carolina defensive end Jadeveon Clowney talks about bowl preparations and looks back on how fast his time at USC has passed.

One more game to play at Tennessee and this nightmare 2013 season is over. We'll end up with either the first overall pick or the second pick. We can't do any worse than that. Pretty simple: If the Texans lose against the Titans they get the first pick.

If the Texans best the Titans on the road (unlikely as it may seem) they need the Redskins to beat the Giants to get the first pick. The only way we'll end up with the second pick is if we beat the Titans and the Giants beat the Redskins. The Rams would get the first pick if that happens so there is no incentive for the Redskins not to play hard.

The Texans are saying all the right things. "We're playing hard and trying to win, blah blah blah, it's all BS!
