Today was way too close. I bet you we pull it out in Jacksonville in two weeks. We are terrible, but they are still worse.
I'm really happy as long as we get a top 2 pick. Either Clowney or Bridgewater will be available then and I'd be happy with that.
But I like what you said earlier. It might be advantageous to trade down with our first pick a little bit to load up on more players. So I'm really hoping we get that 1st pick.
Right now, the Jaguars have a better team than we do. They have Maurice Jones-Drew who's still a versatile playmaker and made us look silly today. It would be like if we had Arian Foster but we don't. That was some all-around game he had. 14 rushes for 84 yards and 1 TD, to go along with his 6 receptions for 60 yards out of the backfield. And people said he was done and washed up going into the game. Their defense completely bullied our offensive line all game long in the trenches. It's remarkable they only won 13-6 but they have Justin Blackmon out. Cecil Shorts still made big plays down the field. Our secondary and linebackers are garbage.
Also J.J. Watt looks unhappy and frustrated. He's a one man force on the defensive line. That is why I want a guy like Jadeveon Clowney so badly. So Watt doesn't have to feel like he's the only difference maker on defense. We will likely make the move to a 4-3 defense with a new coaching staff. Having J.J. Watt and Jadeveon Clowney at defensive end, playing opposite of each other, would be an amazing tandem for many years to come. Opposing offenses would have to game plan and account for both of them.
Our five remaining games (2 home, 3 away): Patriots, at Jaguars, at Colts, Broncos, at TitansThe Patriots, Colts, Broncos and Titans are all fighting for a playoff spot if not homefield advantage. The Titans currently own the last wild-card spot and may need to win that final game to clinch a playoff berth. So I feel pretty confident that those four games are going to be losses.
It's going to likely come down to the Thursday Night Football game on December 5 at Jacksonville. The NFL Network should have very low ratings and probably wishes they had flex scheduling, but that's the game that could very well decide the first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. We usually suck playing primetime games on national TV. I can't imagine the Texans playing any better, especially on the road, than they did today against the Jaguars. We only committed two penalties today and still lost. The Jaguars have our number so I'm not too worried at all.
I would love to see the Jaguars beat the Browns and the Falcons beat the Bills on Sunday, while we lose to the Patriots.
If that happens it would merely be icing on the cake. It's not necessary though. If we lose out that's all we need.
