And even if we land in the top 5, I'm good with that. We can still draft the QB of the future in this deep class.
#1 would be nice, though. Who do we take? Clowney? Bridgewater? Manziel???
We could trade the first overall pick for a King's Ransom because it's a strong draft class. With so many team needs, I wouldn't hesitate to trade down and pick up extra picks (we could stock up and make a killing), while still landing a big-name player in the first round.
Personally though, I still think we should draft Jadeveon Clowney if we're in position to do so. The reason is because we'll probably have a new coaching staff next year and a new defensive coordinator that will play the 4-3 defense. Having J.J. Watt at left and and Jadeveon Clowney at right end would be a nice defensive line in place for the next ten years.
We do need a quarterback so I wouldn't rule out Teddy Bridgewater just yet. Or even Johnny Manziel but I don't think he's going to be drafted that high. I've got a gut feeling that Johnny Football will surprisingly slip much farther down than people think a la Aaron Rodgers way back in the day. We can possibly use our early second round pick, along with a third or fourth rounder, to move back up into the first round and maybe end up with both Clowney and Manziel. We will have some options which is what makes it fun.
If for some reason we end up with a top five pick and not the first overall pick...
Then guys like Anthony Barr, Jake Matthews and C.J. Mosley are options as well.
But I'd rather have the option to draft Teddy Bridgewater or Jadeveon Clowney.
