fuck the 4-3 defense

3-4 is better, just need a different DC to run it. an attacking 3-4 D that run zones and not run man 99% of the time

and watt played DE in the 4-3 in college. he can play anywhere on the DL

But who? I wish we could bring Vic Fangio back. LOL

sryan66611 quote: "Either way I feel you guys could get a good MLB in the draft. I know that one from ALA is coming out and hes a beast but I think you will be too high in the draft to grab him in the first."

Is this the guy you were talking about? The latest mock from five days ago (October 16) had us taking him with the 10th overall pick. And that was before Brian Cushing's season-ending injury and Case Keenum playing well in today's game. It makes too much sense at this point in time. I think we may pick as high as 6th or 7th overall. We can draft a good quarterback in round two or three. It's a quarterback heavy draft.

10. Houston Texans: C.J. Mosley, ILB, Alabama
The Texans really wanted to add some inside linebackers in the 2013 NFL Draft, but never got around to it (Arthur Brown was snagged off the board right before they picked in Round 2). They remain pretty thin at the position.

I thought about slotting Johnny Manziel here, but the Texans put so much stock into character that they may look elsewhere for a solution at the quarterback position.

Honestly, he reminds me of a more athletic version of DeMeco Ryans when we drafted him back in 2006 with the first pick in round two (33rd overall). Quiet guy who lets his play do the talking. He projects as a top 10 pick because his athleticism is off the charts. Could become an elite player in the pros.

Just seems like we have to bite the bullet and consider this season a lose cause.

At 2-5, we have a 10 % chance to make the playoffs. And really anything short of running the table and winning 9 games in a row to finish 11-5 isn't going to be good enough. I can actually see a 10-6 team missing the playoffs in the AFC because there are too many good teams and only two wild-card spots.

It would be best to let the young players play the rest of this season to see if they can play or not. Let's try to activate Sam Montgomery and Trevardo Williams, two of our 2013 draft picks - third and fourth-round picks. I want to see what they can do. Montgomery has been out of shape and Williams has been hurt but they need to see playing time on the field before the 2013 season is over.

I think Brian Cushing's season-ending injury is a blessing in disguise. We can now see our weaknesses: We are very thin in our front seven, especially at inside linebacker. We also need better safeties in the secondary. We already lost Danieal Manning for the season. Manning is too old, as is Ed Reed. We have to play Shiloh Keo and D.J. Swearinger a lot. I think both of those young guys have potential. Keo made a nice interception yesterday and has improved a lot since his rookie season.

Ed Reed conned us into that contract. It was a bad signing. My God. He should have retired a Super Bowl champion like Ray Lewis.
He actually played well in the Super Bowl. But he's old and doesn't have the physical tools anymore. I feel bad for him.

You look at the Chiefs: 2-14 team transformed into a 7-0 team. Their pass rush is sensational. Alex Smith is a good decision maker. And we played them toe to toe yesterday at their house, losing by one point. We need to follow their blueprint for success. Our defense and pass rush can be good if we add more talent around J.J. Watt. We don't have enough playmakers on defense. We have one beast and that's it. We need four or five.

We may potentially release Matt Schaub and Owen Daniels in the off-season (after June 1). That would save us a decent amount of cap space. Not sure either player is really worth much in a trade. Daniels is going into a contract year and can maybe net us a late-round pick but he's coming off a broken leg and injured players have little to no value.

A top 10 draft pick in the 2014 NFL Draft is a start for us. That would benefit us more than anything right now.
If I had to guess, I'm pretty sure we're going to draft defense with our first-round pick. Too many needs there.
We need inside linebackers, nose tackle (Earl Mitchell sucks), safeties and defensive end (Antonio Smith is washed up).
I don't think Wade Phillips is the problem. The problem is we don't have enough good and young defensive players.

weren't you the biggest proponent of Reed in the offseason? I specifically recall how elated you were when he was signed because he was the "missing piece" of you secondary and added that "locker room" presence.

other than getting Cushing back, that was what you were most excited about. you had a countdown going until he finally played his first game as a Texan...

He played well in the Super Bowl like I mentioned. Even made big plays in the playoffs. That's the Ed Reed I thought we were getting. Was hoping he still had a good year or two left. But as soon as he came to training camp he was dealing with numerous injuries. His hip injury was worse than realized and continued to linger.

http://blog.chron.com/ultimatetexans/2013/09/ravens-harbaugh-on-reeds-four-year-hip-issue-watt-physical-texans/

Even John Harbaugh knew about it. Says it was a four-year long injury.

Ravens coach John Harbaugh said Wednesday veteran safety Ed Reed has been dealing with a hip injury for several years.

“Ed’s had a hip issue for about four years that we’ve dealt with,” Harbaugh said during a conference call, responding to a question about whether the Ravens were aware Reed had a hip problem during free agency.

The Texans gave him a physical and he checked out. I guess they didn't dig down hard enough. We didn't do our homework like the Ravens. That's why they are one of the best managed teams in all of sports and win multiple Super Bowls (2000 and 2012). While we are nothing more than a two-time wild card game winner.

that's why getting impact players via free agency is so risky. never know what you are going to get

Sigh. So we already admitted Sam Montgomery was a wasted third-round pick? The kid didn't even play as a rookie.
I was just talking about him getting on the field earlier this morning. We need to see the young players play.

John McClain ‏@McClain_on_NFL 33m
Texans waived RB Cierre Wood, DE Sam Montgomery, OLB Willie Jefferson. Sources say they violated team rules at KC hotel. Got sent home.

John McClain ‏@McClain_on_NFL 32m
Texans could have used Cierre Wood cause of injuries to Arian Foster and Ben Tate in 17-16 loss to Chiefs.

John McClain ‏@McClain_on_NFL 28m
Sam Montgomery was a huge third-round bust. Jefferson has a lot of potential as a 3-4 pass rusher and played on special teams.

Now watch the Ravens, Patriots or some smart team snatch up Sam Montgomery or Willie Jefferson and they'll become future pro bowlers. The Texans now have four roster spots open, including Brian Cushing's season-ending injury (placed on IR). I guess they will work out players. They have two weeks before their next game.

Kubiak: Matt Schaub’s our starting quarterback

http://profootballtalk.nbcsports.com/2013/10/21/kubiak-matt-schaubs-our-starting-quarterback/

Case Keenum handled his first NFL start fairly well for the Texans on Sunday.

Against a very good Chiefs defense, Keenum completed 15-of-25 passes for 271 yards and a touchdown in a 17-16 loss that dropped the Texans to 2-5 this season. That was good enough for a quarterback rating of 110.6, better than any that Matt Schaub put up in six starts before getting injured in the Week Six loss to the Rams. Coach Gary Kubiak wasn’t moved to make an official change on the depth chart, however.

“Matt’s our starting quarterback,” Kubiak said, via the Houston Chronicle. “Case played this week.”

Kubiak has plenty of time to make a different choice about a starting quarterback before the Texans are next on the field. With a bye in Week Eight, Kubiak has two weeks to see how Schaub is recovering from his leg injury and evaluate whether or not he thinks Keenum gives the team a better chance to win regardless of Schaub’s health.

So with JJ Watt, why does his nose ridge bleed every game?

Is it just that he doesn't have enough time to heal it properly or something?
