I think inside linebacker becomes a very big need for us going into the 2014 draft. We have to restructure the contracts to Cushing and Schaub. I think we will release Schaub after June 1 to save that cap space. I'm not sure Cushing will ever be the same. We probably won't know until the 2015 season.

yeah, I still don't know why they haven't tried to upgrade their ILBs, especially in a 3-4 def,,, I mean Dobbins/Sharpton aren't that good, nor should they be starters,+Cushing being shaky as it is with his injuries problems)

but the truth is atleast you still got very good core pieces for atleast 3-4+years

I kind of wish the Texans would consider moving back to a 4-3 defense but that's not going to happen as long as Wade Phillips is here. They don't have the right pieces right now to play a successful 3-4 defense. We never even had a good nose tackle (I've seen enough of Earl Mitchell) and now we are thin on good linebackers.

I think Brooks Reed is capable of playing a good middle linebacker role in a 4-3 defense. And Whitney Mercilus has promise at outside linebacker but that's about it. You can't squeeze out four starting linebackers when we only have two decent ones left.

I also think J.J. Watt would cause some havoc in a 4-3 defense provided we add another monster or two on the defensive line. We have to replace an aging and washed up Antonio Smith also. I wish we still had Mario Williams to be honest. Watt is single handily creating a pass rush facing two blockers. The best he can do some plays is create penetration or knock a pass down. He got hurt today jumping up with two guys blocking him. One of them took a cheap shot to his body while he was in mid air.

yeah

I mean the center piece of your 3-4 D is all about NT/D-line and actually having good OLBs that can put pressure

Steelers had that for atleast 3-4+years with Keisel/hampton/Smith along with the likes of Haggans,Porter, Woodley,Harrrison, Farrior,Timmons,Foote lol

I agree, I don't think we have the Linebackers to run a good 3-4. We should consider going back to 4-3.

If I were the Texans, I would:

-Release and cut ties with Schaub + TJ Yates
-Draft the best QB available in round 1 (trade up if needing to, this is a very deep QB class) and move forward with that pick and Keenum
-Very carefully monitor Cushing's health, and draft a NT/ILB, depending on how he comes along, in the 2 round
-I might even consider letting go of Foster. His contract is huge, and he's starting to get injured a lot. Ben Tate has been more productive this season, and we could get him for less. A runningback's success depends so much on the O-Line. Let's keep Tate and beef up the trenches.

any news on Foster?

"It's a hamstring," said Foster, who entered the game leading the AFC with 531 yards rushing. "It doesn't seem too severe right now, so we will just play it out. I have a bye week coming. It's tough."

Seems like he'll be ready to play against the Colts in two weeks on Sunday Night Football.

where would you put watt in a 4-3??? You think he'd do better as a 4-3 Left end or as a dt playing the 3 technique with the likes of suh, atkins, McCoy? I feel if he got down to about 275-280 he would be a beast at 4-3 End.

Either way I feel you guys could get a good MLB in the draft I know that one from ALA is coming out and hes a beast but I think you will be too high in the draft to grab him in the first.

I was thinking left end also. I think he could shine if we had some good players around him in a 4-3. He can't be the only great player up front.

At 2-5 we may tank now. Colts already running away with the AFC South. Our odds of making the playoffs as a wild-card team is now 10 %

But we're not going to finish 2-14. We play the Jaguars twice, Raiders, Cardinals and Titans again. Five games we may be favored in.

We could finish 7-9 at best. And I'm thinking 5-11 at worse.

fuck the 4-3 defense

3-4 is better, just need a different DC to run it. an attacking 3-4 D that run zones and not run man 99% of the time

and watt played DE in the 4-3 in college. he can play anywhere on the DL
