which playoff games would you rather face:

Host Steelers, Host Chiefs

or

Host Steelers, @Raiders

?

that's a tough question, i think TB12 is right, either way we win.

OK, so hear me out on this:

The benefit of resting some players and halfassing it Week 17:

We get to rest some players
Oakland might lose their late game anyway, so our game wouldnt have mattered
Even if Oakland wins and we get the #2 seed, how is that any worse? As a #1 seed, our 2 playoff games are probably going to be Chiefs/Steelers. If being the #2 seed causes us to have any different matchup than that, it would be @Raiders which is arguably a better path (or at least no worse). Hell, if letting the Raiders get #1 makes it easier for them to knock off their first opponent (Chiefs or Steelers) then that might be better for us in the long run.

So, how could resting players and halfassing Week 17 come back to haunt us? I don't see a scenario where it could.

Big picture, the business of the NFL is about making money so home games are better. But purely from a football perspective, if you are only thinking about winning the SB, resting some people Week 17 makes sense to me right now.

don't count on it bro, for being a pretty knowledgeable pats' fan you are pretty bad at predicting what BB is going to do.

Brady might leave the game early similar to last week that's about it, i'd be surprised if he doesn't start

which part of my post attempted to predict what he WOULD do?

I'm simply asking how resting players and losing could come back to haunt us. I don't see how it could.

well you're talking like if what you're saying is a possibility under BB's system and it's not. lol

i'm not disagreeing with you 100% but i don't see how it;'s worth discussing when it's not going to happen when the #1 seed is on the line. I remember there was one game a long time ago they purposely tried to lose (at least it looked like it) to avoid playing the steelers in the playoffs (i think) but this years circumstances are so much different.

let's say we do what you say and end up with a victory on divisional round sunday and then have to travel to oakland for conference game on saturday.
that's already a short week with an extra day of travel
this year we played well on the west coast, but still, a super hungry oakland home crowd will be difficult to play in.

i see what you're saying, but i can't get down with it. it's too tricky to predict matchups and purposely dive in a seed just for potential matchups

without carr, i still think oakland would be a W in either house, but i would much rather stay home in all of january
the cowboys won't need to leave texas again should they make the super bowl. think about that

For those of you fearing the chiefs, they are near last in the league in 3rd down defense.

Lol

Were not resting our starters either (excluding Brady, he may come out earlier when we're up by 21+ points in the 4th quarter).

all this talk of purposely losing to avoid the steelers. arent they locked into the 3 seed? losing would make you have to play them in the divisional rd assuming they beat the dolphins.

chiefs arent scary away from arrowhead either. no need to worry about them at all.
