SD will be ez

I'm expecting a tough game tonight. It's never easy to win on the road and the Texans have a few keys players banged up or suspended. But regardless we shouldn't place a lot of importance on wins and losses this early in the season because the Texans started off 11-1 last season, which included 5-0, so getting off to a good start means absolutely nothing. At least in recent years, the Super Bowl champions have been the teams who have played their best football late in the season and entering the playoffs. Not the ones who peaked too soon.

I'm eager to see how Jared Crick performs starting at right defensive end in place of Antonio Smith.
He used to be a beast at Nebraska. He looked good in spurts during the pre-season.

Gary Kubiak says Arian Foster and Ben Tate will split the carries tonight. But we all know if the Texans are inside the red zone that Arian is going to see the bulk of the carries. He was a fantasy football machine when it came to TDs last year. But I really hope Ben Tate is back to where he was two years ago, when he rushed for 942 yards on 175 carries (5.4 ypc). If he's a beast again then we can utilize that two-headed monster at RB again.

I need some serious points from Foster, Johnson, and your defense tonight. Thanks.

Andre Johnson had 12 receptions for 146 yards, Owen Daniels had 5 receptions for 67 yards and the rookie DeAndre Hopkins had 5 receptions for 66 yards. These three guys are going to be the key all season long in the passing game. I felt like Hopkins came alive in the second half after a quiet first half. Matt Schaub will target him a lot more if he continues to make big plays. He missed half the pre-season so he's still learning on the fly. Once he hits his stride he's going to be really good.

The running game wasn't that good last night. Arian Foster had 18 carries for 57 yards and Ben Tate had 9 carries for 55 yards. Arian Foster missed the entire pre-season so he's still getting his legs under him. I thought Ben Tate had a couple of nice runs, including a 14-yard run right up the gut with 5 defenders trying to tackle him down.

The defense played pretty good overall in the second half minus the first drive. I expect more of that against the Titans on Sunday, especially with Antonio Smith and Ed Reed coming back. The Texans run defense is solid but the pass defense can play better than they looked last night. We only had two sacks last night by Danieal Manning and Whitney Mercilus, and surprisingly none by J.J. Watt.

The Texans were not dominating by any means but they out-scored the Chargers 24-0 after falling behind 28-7. So they showed they can get it done if they do play well on both sides of the ball. But the same problems continue to worry me. This team doesn't play for a full 60 minutes. They can play a great 30 minutes. Sometimes that's enough to win games. But to win the Super Bowl they have to evolve into a 60-minute team.

I'm ready for the game on Sunday at 12 noontime against the Titans. First division game and our home opener. Let's get to 2-0.

Hopkins had a very key catch..1 inch off the ground. AJ had many very helpful first downs...and Cushing's pick6 sealed it.

Texans dominated and controlled the 2nd half...if we play like that the entire season we'll be gold. Whatever happened in the first half is in the past..it was awful to see but they pulled their heads out of pre-season and got it done.
