Recovering from Achilles injury, DeVier Posey could come off PUP list next week

Texans second-year receiver DeVier Posey could be activated from the preseason physically unable to perform list next week, according to coach Gary Kubiak. Posey suffered the injury in the playoff loss at New England. He underwent surgery in February. It’s been less than seven months since he had the operation.

“He’s doing really well,” Kubiak said. “It looks like we’re very close to pulling him off PUP after this (Miami) game.

“I can’t wait to get back on the field,” Posey said. “This is what I’ve worked so hard for. I’ve really missed it.”

During camp, Posey has worked on an adjacent field with other players recuperating from injuries.

“I’m a guy that puts his head down and works,” Posey said. “I started in a wheelchair, then used crutches, then a (walking) boot and now running. The biggest thing will be my conditioning. I need to get on the field and push off (defensive backs) and get into my route. I can’t wait.”

DeVier Posey had 3 receptions for 47 yards and a 25-yard Touchdown catch in that playoff game against the Patriots. He's only 23 years old. It will be nice to have him back in time for the regular season. Now we'll have four young and talented wide receivers in DeAndre Hopkins (21), DeVier Posey (23), Lestar Jean (25) and Keshawn Martin (23).

Hopefully one or two of them can develop into a legitimate go-to guy as Andre Johnson ages. Both DeAndre Hopkins and DeVier Posey have that big playmaking ability to eventually become the best wide receivers on the team. I'm talking about long term when Andre Johnson eventually retires which hopefully isn't for another four or five years. I'm not sure if he wants to have as long a career as his off-season workout partner and mentor Jerry Rice.

I see Keshawn Martin as a good slot guy who can run good routes but never anything more than a number three guy on the depth chart. Lestar Jean is already 25 years old. I still have high hopes for him but at this point guys like Hopkins and Posey have a lot more potential. Jean's ceiling doesn't strike me as being a future number one guy at the top of the WR depth chart like Hopkins and Posey can possibly become.

Na this is just a no Story... No way Kubiak would put his best defensive player on offense!!!

I would have loved to have seen J.J. Watt at Tight End in goal line packages last season. It couldn't have hurt our porous red-zone offense. But with DeAndre Hopkins' leaping ability and one-handed catches (he can score TDs anywhere on the field), along with sixth-round pick Ryan Griffin -- the big tight end out of UCONN who is 6'6 and 256 -- who had 4 catches for 37 yards in the first pre-season game and is likely going to make the team as the third-string tight end.

I just don't see the need to play Watt on offense at this point in time because our red-zone offense should be improved with our recent draft. With the rookie Ryan Griffin we now have three good tight ends and Watt is unlikely to be on offense unless there is an injury to Owen Daniels or Garrett Graham.

Keep in mind, the entire thought of Watt playing offense actually came about late last season when we were struggling to score points. I don't see that happening this season so long as Matt Schaub plays up to par and doesn't completely suck. He has all the weapons at his disposal along with three pro bowlers on the offensive line.
