Between Sam Montgomery and Trevardo Williams, we need one of them, hopefully both, to step up as a rookie.
I think we'll get big seasons out of Brooks Reed, Brian Cushing and Whitney Mercilus. We have the makings of a good and young LB core.
Trevardo Williams is quick off the snap. Small size but built like a tank. He gets good lower leverage. Smaller, quicker pass rushers are hard to block off the edge. It's a smart idea that the Texans brought in Montgomery and Williams to compete at OLB. I think only Montgomery may see some time at DE as well.
Wade Phillips has a ton of young pass rushers. You would think the Texans have a chance to lead the league in team sacks if they stay healthy.
J.J. Watt by himself may get another 20.5 sacks or more. If these other young guys step up it's going to be a dominating defense.
Whitney Mercilus, in particular, it's time to shine. It's his second season and no more rookie jitters.
Even the secondary, at least talent wise, is the best the Texans have ever had in their 11-year history.
Johnathan Joseph, Kareem Jackson, Ed Reed, Danieal Manning, but the rookie D.J. Swearinger is a monster on the field.
I can't wait to see the Texans new look defense face a pretty good Chargers offense Week 1 on Monday Night Football.
