Miles Sanders gone, as expected. Eagles grab Rashaad Penny though for under $2M. :o

Howie now has three RB's (Gainwell, Penny, Scott) locked up for a grand total of....$5M.

Even last year, Sanders led the team with just 57% of the snaps at RB. They will always use a committee of cost-effective running backs. That is just how they like to operate and focus on building a dominant O-line.

Slay was the teams best corner last year. But from a team building perspective he's 32, wanted more money, and his play dipped a lot in the 2nd half of the season. I'm not happy he's gone but I get why he is all things considered with Hurts contract looming. Can't imagine they don't use a high pick on a CB at this point

via @PFF (Darius Slay)

Week 1 through Week 6: Targeted 32 times, 14 catches allowed for 168 yards, 1 TD, 3 INT, 31.8 passer rating

Week 7 through Super Bowl: Targeted 51 times, 33 catches allowed for 391 yards, 4 TD, 0 INT, 114.1 passer rating

Be prepared to drop the sack. Dudes a fgt, wouldn't practice or show up for us unless he had an extension (as a 3rd safety/nickel corner) and that was before he blew up last season

Was he really their best corner though?

Bradberry was an All-Pro last season....Slay was not.

Bradberry's coverage numbers last season (minimum 75 targets):

Completion rate allowed -- 44% (1st in NFL)
Yards per attempt -- 4.7 (1st in NFL)
Opposing QB rating -- 44.5 (1st in NFL)

And he's under 30.

It can definitely be debated, but I can't act like I / we weren't hyping him up all throughout this past season. Especially with performances like he had against Justin Jefferson

I think both corners are very good tbh. And the team picked the one that was willing to come back for less and is younger. No matter who is better between the two of them, the fact is they are just a better team with Slay, so he will be missed

He was terrific earlier in the season for sure. Definitely fell off later in the season though. Also, we have to remember he did draw opposing #1 a lot so he did get the tough matchups often. That game against Jefferson early on was a thing of beauty though.

But overall, there was a reason Bradberry was selected as an All-Pro and had insanely good numbers in coverage. Technically speaking, he was the better corner. Slay carries the bigger name though (hence why he was selected to the Pro Bowl and Bradberry wasn't).

Either way, there's no way the Eagles were going to keep him under his current cap hit, and he refused to restructure, and they weren't going to extend him for the guaranteed money he wanted at his age.
