Gus on defense: "We’ll put a lot of the blame on us as coaches and we’ll share it, but sooner or later, they have to be able to stand up."

As soon as Blake Bortles entered the Jaguars’ 44-17 loss today in the third quarter, he was the new starter and he will get the nod next Sunday at San Diego.
Coach Gus Bradley confirmed that after Bortles went 14-of-24 for 223 yards, two touchdowns and two interceptions today.
“To come to this decision was instinct,” Bradley said. “I felt like in our conversations with Chad [Henne] and Blake, as the week went on, it felt clear to me that his body of work in practice and his mentality, all those things we wanted to challenge him on from OTAs until now, he was in a pretty good place. I just felt like he was ready for his body of work to begin on the field.”
Henne got the hook after going 4-of-7 for 33 yards in the first half and the Jaguars being blown off the field.
Bortles led three scoring drives (field goal and two touchdowns).
“Blake, I thought, did a nice job,” Bradley said. “He’s going to learn. But he made some plays. He kept plays alive. He has really good instincts, made some really good decisions and some good throws and some throws I’m sure he wish he had back. But I love his mindset and the strength he has. He’s a tough hard-nosed competitor and he will attack. And the team felt that part of it. It’s no coincidence we blocked a little better, the receivers played a little better – he has a way of lifting the team.”
