Avant is reliable, but not when he's asked to step up and possibly be the 2nd best receiver on the team.

He has great hands as we know, but i'm pretty sure the average fan can keep pace with him running wise he's slow as fuck. If he's the 3rd or 4th guy in the slot is very reliable, but not in a MAJOR role like he's asked to be in now. He just can't create separation.

Maclin's injury has affected this team a lot. Not having another burner on the other side of D.Jax makes it tough for everyone, especially when your next 2 best receivers are Cooper & Avant both not fast at all.



Primary need for this team for the future is a QB though. Need to let Foles play more and see what we have in him, more of a chance to evaluate him after that bad performance. Vick isn't the answer, and Barkley was put in an unfair situation so he would need another go to really evaluate.

Avant has been dropping couple catchable balls so far in the season (granted some passes were not exactly right to the hands but still catchable)
And yeah, he's too slow (great route runner though) and can't get consistent separation. Obviously it would be nice if we can a wideout like Maclin but we also need a quick slot guy that can work the short yardage situations. Desean drops way too many balls to be reliable for short down situations.

I honestly think Foles won't be given another chance if Vick gets healthy. Which is a shame because I honestly think he should. We have to see if Vick is healthy or not first though.

Ok so things to take away from this game (a lot of negatives)

Hopefully Chip Kelly is going through a learning curve. So many questionable game-changing decisions each game. This is his first NFL season so I'm not too surprised but holy fuck...

He really needs to make a lot of adjustment esp if Barkley is gonna start next game. His play-calling was atrocious this game. And the zone-read option run plays aren't working anymore esp if your qb doesn't keep the fucking ball. It's 7 or 8 against 6 most of the time because defense doesn't respect the qb keep anymore. And what happened to using our TE to create mismatch? All three of our TE has been MIA, really frustrating to watch.

Our defense is playing better. Didn't have a great game but didn't do so bad either. Not sure if Giants offense is just horrible though, we did play very good against Cowboys.

Our offense is a mess. Oline has been playing worse every single week. And once again, quarterback situation is a mess and our receivers aren't helping.

I know NFC East is shit this year and we still have a good chance of competing for it but... it's better to think about the future.
If you look at all the great coaches in the NFL, not a lot of them had winning records in their first season coaching.
First and foremost, we need to know if Foles/Barkley is our qb for the future. Don't play Vick anymore seriously. Let him go after this season. It's almost pointless, I know a lot of fans want to win right now but we have to do what's best for our future.
Start Foles for rest of the year if he's cleared or start Barkley.

Yes, Barkley didn't have a good game statistically, but I like him. Again, he was put in a very unfair situation. Hopefully he gets some rep at practice with first team and get some preparation in.
He's making good reads and for the most part, he moved down the field much better than Vick or Foles (last week). Again, our receivers aren't helping him with dropped passes and receivers deciding to run horizontally rather than vertically (cough Jackson).
