Massive overpay for someone who is a fringe 2nd option / 3rd option. Kirk is only 25, youngest FA WR on the market and has been in the league 4 years. He'll be in his physical prime throughout this contract, while most of the other guys are getting towards the back end of their physical prime.

It would be entirely different if they gave Kirk this contract while Godwin, Mike Williams, Gallup etc made it to FA, but their teams weren't about to let them walk and for good reason. Although Mike Williams got overpaid as well. He got $20m per with $40m guaranteed. Just like Golladay last year and his contract which is very similar to Kirk's. Except he got $40m guaranteed vs Kirk's $37m guaranteed.

The WR market has went way up in general in recent years. With the way the league has gone with being pass happy, pass catchers are cashing in all over the league with big contracts.

That Thielen contract isn't much better. He hasn't been the same player since he signed that deal and Kirk has been a far more productive player than Thielen was at the same points of their careers. I don't understand why people think a 25 year old has already hit his peak lol. Thielen was already 24 when he entered the NFL.

edit: also, Kirk had 982 yards last year, lets not act like that's a far cry from 1k. That'd be like bragging about DJ Chark being great because he hit 1,008 yards one season.

Theilen wasn’t given a shot to play in the NFL until he was 26 and the moment he was given a shot blew the doors open. Kirk has been given 4 years of having a shot and hasn’t really improved much. Again sure he’s a solid 2 I’ll agree with that. but you are paying him 21m. It’s 7mil this year which is fine for him but 21.5mil the remaining 3 years. If you release him after 2 which you probably will it’ll be a 10m dead cap.
