Calvin is declining before our eyes--even the dumbest GM wouldn't trade for him based on past stats with his current contract. As his salary goes up (and it goes up quite a bit each season from now) his performance goes down. He's getting cut if he doesn't retire.
For the team that receives his contract, they will have to pay:
2016: 16 mil
2017: 16.5 mil
2018: 17 mil
2019: 18.25 mil
That is an insane amount of money for a declining receiver, but then that's why they structure contracts the way they do: so they can get cut.
Last year Brandon Marshall looked like he was on the decline, didn't hit 1k yards and only had like 7-8 tds.
Change of scenery changed everything; while cutler and fitzpatrick are pretty much equally skilled qbs, a new city and coaching staff revitalized the aging Marshall's career.
Calvin is the same type of reciever.
Boldin, ss89, Crabtree are some other examples of guys who went to other teams later in career and had a reinassance. Although Crabtree is a bit of a reach
