wonder why JJ didn't grab a safety?
Available Draft Safeties Didn't Measure Up
Posted by rphillips at 5/6/2011 12:36 PM CDT
Although the Cowboys seem likely to make a move or two in free agency -- Gerald Sensabaugh should be an unrestricted free agent and Alan Ball is probably moving back to corner --the Cowboys haven't forgotten about developing their current group of backup safeties.

That was evident in last weekend's NFL Draft, when the club chose not to take a safety with one of their eight picks.

Arguably the draft's best safety/corner prospect, Texas' Aaron Williams, might have been the pick at No. 40 if he hadn't gone 34th to Buffalo. But the Cowboys weren't particularly high on the next guy in line, UCLA's Rahim Moore, and took North Carolina linebacker Bruce Carter at 40 instead.

The rest of the class was widely considered weak overall, possibly the weakest in recent memory. Throughout the draft, Jerry Jones said team brass weighed whether an available safety could beat out Akwasi Owusu-Ansah, Barry Church or Danny McCray. Their answer was no. Jones said the room's general opinion was that Owusu-Ansah would have been a third-round pick had he not been coming off shoulder surgery last spring.

"That's the type of process you go through," Jones said.

Owusu ansah is a badass. I say we start him this year so he can get some real playing time under his belt. I think he's the "ansah" to our safety problem.

vouch the KO return thing...he was god awful at that. Would like to see him get some reps in the pre-season at very least. The guy seems to have pretty legit coverage skills.

SO STOKED TO SEE DEMARCO MURRAY IN ACTION!
