After receiver Kevin Walter left Sunday's victory over Indianapolis with a shoulder injury, the Texans hoped for the best but prepared for the worst.
On Monday, coach Gary Kubiak received the best news possible when Walter's MRI showed he had suffered a badly bruised collarbone - not a broken shoulder, as had been reported by some members of the media.
"He does not have a fracture," Kubiak said. "That's great news. It's being treated as a bad bruise. He's probably going to miss a few days, and we'll see where he is (Wednesday) and at the end of the week."
Kubiak didn't rule out Walter for Sunday's game at Miami, but because of the bad bruise, it's more than likely he'll sit out at least one game and possibly two.
Good news on Texans number two wide receiver Kevin Walter. John McCLain of the Houston Chronicle just reported two hours ago that it's only a badly bruised collarbone and he may not miss that much time. Perhaps he'll be out one or two games and there is still a chance Kevin Walter plays on Sunday against the Dolphins. He'll have to ice it down and miss practice but it could have been much worse.
Earlier in the morning on the NFL Network, Jason La Canfora jumped the gun and gave some bad information, saying that Kevin Walter suffered a broken shoulder and would be out 10 to 12 weeks. There was already some speculation on local radio shows that the Texans would try to lure Randy Moss out of retirement or be interested in signing Terrell Owens in a few weeks when his knee can pass a physical.
One or two games is nothing. Jacoby Jones can fill in well for Kevin Walter if needed. Bryant Johnson would become the third wide receiver on the depth chart. Houston still needs to add another wide receiver just in case because their depth is becoming a concern. They released David Anderson and Andre Davis in the off-season.
It seemed like Lester Jean would make the team as an undrafted rookie before he was placed on injured reserve. Houston does have Jeff Maehl from Oregon on their practice squad. Another talented rookie that went undrafted. I think Jean and Maehl will be on the Texans roster at some point in the future but now is not the time. I'd rather see Houston sign a veteran free agent.
Randy Moss or Terrell Owens, if nothing else, would be an upgrade over Bryant Johnson. Probably not going to happen but I can dream!!!!
