I'm reading that he got a pulse back. I suspect his heart stopped for 9 min but professional cpr got his heart rate back. Not breathing on his own isn't as serious now that he's on a ventilator. If he didn't have a pulse by now then the outlook would be much more grim. Based on what we know now, I don't think this injury will end up being fatal. There was a hockey situation similar with cardiac arrest. Video if interested.
