Andre Johnson: Best back-to-back ever in the history of the game

By Paul Kuharsky | ESPN.com

DETROIT -- Andre Johnson outdid his favorite receiver, Calvin Johnson, in the Texans’ 34-31 overtime win over the Lions Thursday.

Andre Johnson also followed up his career best 14-catch, 273-yard game against Jacksonville with another big day: Nine catches for 188 yards.

His two-game total is the best two-game receiving total in the history of the NFL, according to Elias. Here is the list.

Andre Johnson, 461 yards in 2012
Chad Johnson, 450 yards in 2006
John Taylor, 448 yards in 1989
Jerry Rice, 442 in 1985

That’s pretty incredible. The only other time Johnson recorded a 200-yard receiving game, ESPN Stats & Info had pointed out he had just 19 yards the following week. This follow up was of a much higher caliber.

That it came as his team matched up with Calvin Johnson means Andre Johnson did good work reminding a national audience that he’s still very much in the conversation about the game’s best wideouts.

Calvin Johnson finished with eight catches (on 17 targets) for 140 yards and a touchdown.

“I didn’t know which Johnson I had when I looked at the stat sheet,” Texans coach Gary Kubiak joked. “I didn’t know which one had 140 and which one had 188. Two great players. Andre is rolling right now. He’s got confidence, he’s playing his tail off, he’s healthy and he’s back in the best condition I’ve seen him in in three years.”

The Texans have turned to Johnson in crunch time in very tight games the last two weeks.

"Every team has guys that they look to when things are going bad," Andre Johnson said. "So, I'm one of the guys this team looks to when things are going bad. I just try to make the best of the opportunities when I get them."

Even in another languare the game highlights are still fun to watch. Winning football is winning football any way you slice the dice. Thanks, Jim Schwartz. 46 seconds to 1:13. Nice excitement and commentary by those Brazilian guys on the game-winning Field Goal by Shayne Graham.

He almost missed it. Didn't realize it watching it live because I had closed my eyes as he kicked it. I watched the previous miss he had in Overtime and thought it would be better luck if I didn't watch the one he made.

Kubiak?

We share the same birthday and I do the same superstitious things as him. I couldn't watch it. Must be a Leo thing.

The five games left for the Texans. Three are on the road and two are at home.

At Titans - Sun, Dec 2 - 1:00 PM Eastern on CBS
At Patriots - Mon, Dec 10 - 8:30 PM Eastern on ESPN
Colts - Sun, Dec 16 - 1:00 PM Eastern on CBS
Vikings - Sun, Dec 23 - 1:00 PM Eastern on FOX
At Colts - Sun, Dec 30 - 1:00 PM Eastern on CBS

At 10-1, the Texans are in good shape to win the 1st seed in the AFC. It's important that they beat the Titans before the big primetime showdown with the Patriots on Monday Night Football. Depending on how they do in these next three games, they may or may not be able to rest some starters in the final few games. It's possible they could clinch the 1st seed in that home game against the Colts if things go really well.

The Texans now have a 74 % chance to win the 1st seed and a 14 % chance to win the 2nd seed.

I'll be cheering for a Chargers home win over the Ravens on Sunday. Even though the Texans own the tiebreaker it would be nice to see them at 3 losses along with the Patriots and Broncos. Just to have that hard two game lead over all of them - would be like three over the Ravens and Broncos.

All the Texans can do is rest up for the next nine days and get ready for the Titans game on December 2. An undefeated conference record is on the line.

Another victory another day of talking about, anything but the texans.... Just glad we got the win, even if it was looked down upon by a lot.

Well a long week for the texans to get a little stronger and hopefully get back JoJo and some of the others that got hurt after that rough 5 day stretch... I am expecting the Worst out of the Reed injury but hoping for the best... Ruud looked good there at the end...

I am a little nervous at how the defense has been looking as of late, but the good thing is when push comes to shove they get the stops. We need Barwin or Mercilus or Smith, Or ANYONE to step up with the pressure. For most of the game it just seem like they were playing flipping Patty Cake. It is always good to see Schaub throwing it around even if he still scares me...

And for all of those people saying Andre is getting old....... They are right, but he is looking like the Andre of old. The thing most people didn't realize about Andre, or atleast the general people. Is that he wasn't at 100% all season i believe he was talking on Verizon player show few weeks back talking about how he feels better each day... Still schaub was having hard time connecting with much of anybody, that comes and goes it seems.

I think its funny how they talk about Fosters vegan diet. Even though last week he said he isnt totally following that... that is trying to eat healthy but not that he is Straight Vegan and no meat...

Thanksgiving is over... I am thankful for the texans, and for this thread where the General Dumbasses normally stay out of.

I'd call the Titans game a must win because that would give them a chance to still control their own destiny even if they lost to the Patriots. They could potentially win the final three games and still take the 1st seed outright without worrying about what the other teams do. But it would be nice to beat the Titans and Patriots, and try to clinch it a little sooner. I really want the Chargers to beat the Ravens on Sunday. Either way the Texans still control their own destiny which is all you ask for.

I wonder what the all-time record is for most receiving yards by a player in three straight games? Andre Johnson now owns it for two straight games. I'm trying to figure out how many yards he needs for the three-game record against the Titans on December 2? Also Arian Foster owns the all-time record for most rushing yards by a player during his first two playoff games (285), which he did against the Bengals (153) and Ravens (132).

I hope that Arian Foster can continue to extend that rushing record into three, four, five games, etc... etc.... when the Texans return to the playoffs in January. It's going to take a lot of offense for the Texans to go deep in the playoffs if the defense doesn't become healthy and play a lot better.

The good news that I heard a little while ago on the Texans radio show is Johnathan Joseph is feeling better and likely would have played if the game had been this Sunday. So he'll get an extra week to rest for the Titans game. The Texans basically played 10 quarters of football in 4 days -- that's a hell of a lot and begging for injuries -- because they won both games with around 2 minutes left in Overtime.

The bad news: Brooks Reed is going to be out 3 to 4 weeks with his groin injury. But it will not require surgery and he should be back for the final game or two of the season. Gary Kubiak says the plan is to get him some game action before the playoffs start. And the talented rookie Whitney Mercilus is ready to step up in place of Brooks Reed.

Also Bradie James (hamstring) and Derek Newton (knee) are dealing with injuries and the extent of them are unknown right now. The Texans were already without Brian Cushing and Tim Dobbins. They are very thin at Middle Linebacker right now which is why their 3-4 defense is struggling to stop the run or pass over the middle of the field. They may have to sign a free agent and work out some players sometime next week. Barrett Ruud made a couple of nice plays against the Lions yesterday so I'm hopeful if they have to add somebody he can grasp Wade Phillips' defense quick enough just like Ruud did.

It's pretty impressive that the Texans are 10-1 considering all of what they're dealing with. The offense has been stepping up while the defense is down.

Our pass rush needs to step up. Yeah, JJ Watt is still getting it done, but no one else isn't doing much, and opp QBs have been getting a lot of time in the pocket and are killing us(except the bears, but its still one of the worst oline). The last three teams we've faced, the Bears, Jaguars, and the Lions and we hardly got any pass rush in those games, and IMO its bad because these oline are usually considered terrible by everyone. We didnt have any sack in the Bears game. Aldon Smith had 5 sacks against the Bears alone. Two sacks against the Jaguars(Watt and Quin), and three sacks against the Lions, all by Watt.

Im tired of seeing Watt getting DT'd all day and never see Antonio Smith, Connor Barwin, Brooks Reed, or Whitney Mericlus taking any pressure off of Watt. It seems like we have to blitz the safety or one of the MLB to get any pass rush.

The NFL Network re-aired the Texans and Lions game a few hours ago. People laughed when the Texans signed Barrett Ruud but he made two game-saving plays late in the 4th quarter by forcing incomplete passes and knocking the ball out of the hands of wide-open Detroit players. He was showing some Brian Cushing like pass coverage down field.

YouTube keeps pulling down highlights. Almost impossible to find any these days with the NFL copyright. The Spanish one I posted two days ago should have stayed up though but I guess not. The middle of the field is wide open way too much. That's a huge concern to me moving forward but it's something that can definitely improve with some healthy players coming back.
