Not gonna happen. Not this year at least
If no NFL team signs Johnny Manziel for this upcoming 2016 season that should count as 16 suspended games. I know that's not the way it works but that would the equivalence of a one year long penalty. Because if a team signs him next off-season (prior to the 2017 season), the NFL shouldn't discipline him with a suspension. Especially if he can go the entire year without getting into any major off-the-field trouble.
I was actually okay with his drinking and partying wildly at the clubs almost every single night. Even the great Joe Namath, who was also a charismatic womanizer, did a lot of that wild partying during his day but there was no social media and smartphones back then to cover his every move otherwise he would have made Johnny Manziel look like a shy kid. And Joe Namath led the New York Jets to one of the greatest upsets in Super Bowl history.
But when Manziel had allegedly kidnapped and hit his former girlfriend (causing her to temporarily lose her hearing in her left ear), and had that restraining order placed on him, that was hard for me to overlook. He does deserve a second chance though. He's just a young and dumb kid. 23 years old and his family is rich. He doesn't know what discipline really is. He knows he can buy his way out of trouble and hire the best lawyers.
Colleen Crowley, Manziel's former girlfriend, is apparently dating DeAndre Hopkins now!
She was watching him earlier today at the Texans practice. They've been hanging out for over a month.
The weird thing is Jerry Jones nearly drafted Johnny Manziel. And he's signed plenty of players with all sorts of criminal history. And they absolutely need a quarterback. Tony Romo is a good bet to get hurt early in the season and miss a handful of games. And they still need to sign or trade for a backup quarterback as I type this.
If Dallas were to sign Johnny Manziel they should recruit the help of Troy Aikman to mentor him.
All Manziel needs is somebody who can help him. Gary Kubiak reached out to him a few months ago.
I actually thought the Denver Broncos would sign him but it was just Kubiak giving him advise, one Aggie to another.
