The Browns are in no position to wait to see if players will take less money and risk losing them

They have the cap space, spend the money. Still have plenty left too.

It's one thing to spend and spend and spend. It's a whole other thing to have those signings pan out.

Id rather them spend and take the chance. Obviously not spending anything and getting fill-in players for 1-2 years doesnt work.

That's why you build through the draft.

Most of these guys signing big contracts now for all these teams, probably wont even be with these same teams 2-3 seasons from now.

well obviously. But this is the first time that our team has wanted someone and went out aggressively and got them. I can't help but be happy about that. That's the biggest improvement to our team in itself.

And it's perfectly fine to be happy about it. I'm not saying don't be. I'm just saying, sometimes day 1 winners, turn out to be the biggest losers.

You cant only build through the draft. You need veterans(that can play)

Im just glad they seem to want to win right now

No, you absolutely can build exclusively through the draft, and it is the best way of building a team to compete for long stretches instead of going all in for a window of 2-3 years. Teams just need to commit to a multi year rebuilding project rather than hiring a new HC and expecting him to make the playoffs in a year.

And the Browns are in a spot where they pretty much have to spend money. The cap floor starts this year, and they were over $20m under that number before today.

I agree, but you don't need to break the bank to get them. If you're successful through the draft, that lets you go pick up a few solid vets. The Draft builds your teams core, FA just adds an extra piece or two.

None of that matters unless you have a franchise QB

Drafting becomes easy when you have the main piece, and GB hasnt had that problem for about 20 years.

How many teams have a franchise QB that they didn't get through the draft?
