I'm not going to bet on the Texans this year. Don't want to jinx them. I have been losing my forum gold on baseball.

Texans going to win a lot of games if I stay away from bets. I just know it. Fuck, they were 5-1 during the 6 games I did not bet on them last year.

So no comment from me about the playoffs or not. I'm just going to enjoy the games and not make any bets on them. Just like I've been doing this pre-season.

for the first time in my life, the texans defense is exciting to watch. even if it's just the preseason lol, so sad. top 5 in passing defense, rushing defense and total defense. of course it doesnt mean anything but if we can get that in the regular season, super bowl bound.

and i doubt the texans wins the next game, the 2nd team offense has been turrible, tho the defense's been good.

I'm assuming we'll see Matt Leinart play into the 3rd quarter and then the rookie T.J. Yates finishing the game against the Vikings on Thursday Night. It could be a low-scoring game if the defense continues to play well. Brooks Reed has made a strong case to become a starter at LOLB. I think he has won the job over Connor Barwin and it's not like Barwin has been playing bad. Brooks Reed has just been that good. Between J.J. Watt and Brooks Reed, we have two difference makers and rookie starters, in my opinion.

Man if I get Madden '12, I'll be playing Brooks Reed a lot on defense. He's an absolute beast. He's all over the field and reminds me a lot of a young and bigger version of Zach Thomas when he came out of Texas Tech. So much energy and passion, plays with a high motor every snap. Between Brooks Reed and J.J. Watt, neither of them take a play off. It's refreshing to see in today's game, when so many players are pre-madonnas, not going all out every play.

Hopefully that type of tenacity and effort will carry over into Mario Williams. If it does, Mario Williams will become an All Pro outside linebacker with 15 to 20 sacks a year. Super Mario changing positions will only benefit the entire team. Hall of Famer Bruce Smith had some high praise for Mario Williams the other day. He said that the Texans did him a great disservice by allowing him to play for two mediocre defensive coordinators his first five years in the league, but he has a chance to become one of the all-time greats playing under Wade Phillips..

Bruce Smith got to play for Wade Phillips in Buffalo so perhaps a little bit of homering on his part, but you can't argue with what Wade Phillips has done as a defensive coordinator. He's been one of the best coordinators in the game for a long time. The only thing stopping Mario Williams from entering that elite conversation is himself. If he plays with a high motor and doesn't take plays off, he'll be a monster.

Safety Shiloh Keo, punter Brad Maynard and running back Chris Ogbonnaya were among the players waived by the Texans on Saturday when they reduced their roster from 80 to 52 – one short of the maximum 53.

General manager Rick Smith and coach Gary Kubiak will continue to rework the roster while the Texans prepare for the Sept. 11 opener against Indianapolis.

Among the veteran players kept on the roster were Steve Slaton as the fourth running back and Bryant Johnson as the fourth receiver.

Keo, the fifth-round pick from Idaho, didn’t make the team as the fifth safety. He’s a candidate for the practice squad if he clears waivers.

Because they waived Maynard, the Texans will be in the market for a new punter.

Ogbonnaya, who led the team in rushing in preseason with 54 carries for 192 yards, also could be placed on the practice squad.

Linebacker Cheta Ozougwu, a seven-round pick, was waived injured along with free agent receiver Terrence Toliver.

Saturday’s moves mean the Texans kept six of their eight draft choices: defensive end J.J. Watt, outside linebacker Brooks Reed, cornerback Brandon Harris, cornerback Roc Carmichael, quarterback T.J. Yates and offensive tackle Derek Newton.

Carmichael, a fourth-round pick, didn’t play in preseason because of a shoulder injury.

Outside linebacker Bryan Braman, who signed as an undrafted free agent and recorded a team-high 2 ½ sacks in preseason, made the team.

Notable veterans waived were linebacker Xavier Adibi, defensive end Damione Lewis, receiver Dorin Dickerson, tight end Anthony Hill, receiver Trindon Holliday, safety Quentin Demps, safety Torri Williams and linebacker Stanford Keglar.

Others placed on waivers were running back Javarris Williams, fullback Zac Pauga, receiver Jeff Maehl, receiver Derrick Townsel, offensive tackle Cole Pemberton, center Cody Wallace, center Howard Barbieri, offensive tackle Peter Hendrickson, defensive end Scooter Berry, defensive end John Graves, guard Andrew Gardner, linebacker Mister Alexander, nose tackle Guy Miller, outside linebacker Steven Friday and snapper Scott Albritton and linebacker Matt Marcorelle.
