It actually wasnt bad, 4 bolts through the frame to the bed on each side. I took the drivers side ones out and loosened the passenger side ones like 1/2-3/4 way out and just lifted the whole box right up. I also had to disconnect the lights, 4 plugs not a biggy and two bolts hold the fuel tube in place. Of course I have almost a full tank so like 20 out of 26 gallons in it probably so it would have been heavy. My issue now is the damn ring that locks the fuel pump in is so fucking rusty I couldnt budge it even with a 3 pound sledge and a punch. I guess I'll have to put penetrating oil all over it and wait for a while. It was terrible dirty when I got under it.

now it just rusty as hell andthe ring is basically rusted to the fuel pump...lol I have knocked off a bunch of rust and cleaned it up more since I took this last photo

yeah I got my buddy bringing some over now. Michigan uses salt on the roads to melt the ice and it rapes everything metal. I wash my truck at least every other week in the winter (I try to get it every week but sometimes its so cold here thats just not an option) to keep it in as good of shape as I can, but its hard to get in the crevasses. Plus I take my truck down back roads and two tracks and sand pits and mudding and stuff so it gets its fair share of dirt, it's not a city truck by any means...lol

Salt is bad as shit here, I can't imagine somewhere like Michigan where it snows even more. Shit gets everywhere.

Yea minnesota is terrible like that too. I think they are trying to switch more towards sand around here but they still lay that shit down thick on the highways.

Semi-related, Nissan had a recall on certain vehicles from the 90s and early 00s within "salt states" that calls for warranty-covered bodywork. Surprised/confused me the first time I saw it... like, wtf am I (a mechanic) supposed to do with this? They outsource it to a body shop as I found out.

And I was never good at bodywork. I would strive for perfection and then spend a lot of time sanding bondo, putting it back on, sanding it again, failing to get it just right, and just painting over an uneven lump of compound by the end of it

I remember a few years ago when we had the record snowfalls for the midwest and we went almost double our allocated salt budget in WI

Lol yea I remember that. Huge ot for all the plow drivers and a huge fuss about the salt budget. I didn't even know that could be an issue before that
