Looking to buy a new laptop within the next month or so. Idk what I'm doing so I'm turning to you guys. Its going to be primarily only used when I travel (10 times a year or so between work and vacation) and I'd like it to be something somewhat hefty but not some $3,000 monstrosity. Will be used for basic shit like interwebs, streaming movies, porn and some gaming. I'm not talking GTA on ultra or anything silly like that but I'd like to be able to run games cleanly, just maybe on medium to high settings.

Budget is $1,000 but cheaper is always better.

Will pay 1000fg to whoever finds me something I buy plus another 300fg for every $100 under $1000 the price is. :)

If you get one of the less popular brands you usually can save a couple hundred bucks on the same exact computer.

I personally like Lenovo. All I use is a desktop so I don't own a laptop but I know when I bought mine (300 dollars) the same exact computer but dell was in the 500s

Just something to consider. If you're like me and don't need to have the hot item Mac or whatever that would be my recommendation.

And don't use your comp for porn. Haha. That's what phones are for

Yeah if you get a Lenovo you get a free backdoor to your [supposedly] secure information!

What? I've never had issues with lenovos. he literally said he's using it for movies, games and porn.... I don't think he needs a top of the line laptop for that. Just my opinion though. I guarantee you guys know more than me about laptops so its not worth that much.

Has nothing to do with power/usage, Lenovo has got caught shipping computers with an intentional backdoor on multiple occasions

He wants a laptop for more than 4 years of course.. Lenovos are crap when it comes to efficiency and longevity.

I really liked the Asus N80 I bought in like 2008 and it actually still works almost like new.

However, I tried an Asus a couple years ago and ended up returning it because it made a surprising amount of fan noise.

And their most recent Zenbooks have a stupid location for their touchpad, which you will always hit with your palm when typing. And the surface of their touchpad (if it's all aluminum like I remember) scratches easily

yeah Asus doesn't have the best touchpads... i dislike them but it doesn't bother me because I use a mouse 95% of the time

I have an X75a series... got it for less than $550 on Newegg (6 gigs ram, 2.2ghz i3, half a terabyte HD) it's not a gaming laptop but for streaming/surfing it's perfect and all I can ask for and it was money well spent, no complains whatsoever going on 3 years now running strong.

fan isn't loud at all, I run it mostly on the A/C adapter it runs so much better than with the battery (superb battery life if I need it, like 5 hours+ on battery saver i think)
